2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Aureth (20) - Knoxville, USA - MAR 23, 2005
Golden yellow, with a frothy white head. Very clean and light bodied, some slight tinges of banana and clove flavors. Somewhat bitter finish. No spices detected...Matt the brewer admits it’s not a great saison, next time he does this he’s going to up the spice additions.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 GeneralGao (3545) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - DEC 15, 2006
Draught at the brew pub. Clear golden-orange color with thin white head that didn’t leave any lace. Aroma and flavor were of clove and subdued banana with a warm splash of alcohol at the end. Nothing to write home about, but decent.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 frankenkitty (1958) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - JUN 20, 2005
Medium-amber colored with a small white head. Fruity aromas (banana & cherry) with a doughy, yeast base. Mildly bitter to start with a sweet/sour fruit finish. Flavor and finish included a dirty, dry, wheat character. My wife enjoyed it, so I appreciate that.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 6, 2005
Transparent bright gold with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma has cloves and pepper up front, and a vanilla and lemon citrus accent. Flavor is pepper and coconut cream cheese frosting. Light, effervescent and slick. Candi sugar sweetness. Seems more in line with an off-German hefe. Fading, watery finish that’s slightly astringent with some lingering pepper in the aftertaste.

Whoa. Tastes like it’s been spiked with a couple ounces of lemon juice. No head, and drinks like flat fizzy lemonade, except with no sugar. Disappointing.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mj23 (63) - south holland, Illinois, USA - MAY 22, 2005

Pours a bright yelow with a huge flowery nose completmented with some peppery spice. The flavor was in line with the nose, with a lot of flowery and spicy-ness. This was light and very refreshing for the summer months. I enjoyed it.

with little head, and pale, almost watery appearance, i didn’t expect much from this beer, and it didn’t disappoint. the aroma was grainy/grassy and the flavor was bitter and sour. the bitter aftertaste seemed to stick to the back of my throat. as i drank it, i enjoyed it less.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 14, 2005
Draught at the brewpub: light, clear rosy-orange body with a thin white head. Subtle, lemon rind, grass and dusty aroma, with an understated freshness. Light somewhat thin palate, missing any complexity in the mouth feel. Flaovurs are also understated, with hints of yeast bitterness, dough and hay. Not very noteworthy, but seems to posses some promise.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Cornfield (5277) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - MAR 6, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2005 This is a nice initial attempt by the brewer, but it comes across too cleanly, bereft of the barnyard scents and tastes that I associate with a good saison. It’s light-bodied with a decent head and tastes grassy with a sour twist to it. I think they had too light a hand with the seasonings. It finishes on a sour and bitter note. I’m looking forward to their next attempt at this difficult style.
