4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NobleSquirrel (2677) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 9, 2009
2009 Bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a nice orangey amber with sticky head. I find it hard to believe that this is all amarillo, could have sworn simcoe. Pungent and resiny with a deep citrus nose. Super sticky. Taste is actually really soft with a clean, even bitterness. Enough backbone to hold it up. This is a fantastic and drinkable IIPA. A touch catty, but delicious. Awesome!

Slightly hazy tangerine with a cap of buttery fine head that leaves some nice lace as it settles. Looks very pretty and drinkable there in the glass. All kinds of fresh citrus fruit in the aroma--grapefruit, blood oranges, lemon blossom. Huge, spicy fragrance that hits your nose before you can get it up to the glass. Tons of sticky lip-smacking hop flavor. Maltly sweetness blends with and underscores the hops, which totally fill all corners of my mouth with hoppy goodness. A bit of apricot flavor. This is just fabulous IPA--balanced, beautiful stuff. Like all the nice smells of summer in a glass.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 holdenn (1855) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 4, 2007
Sampled on cask at NotLA 07. Golden amber colored with a white head. Piney oaky nose carmel and malt. Sweet carmelized malt flavors oak, citrus, pine, grapefruit, and sugar. This gets better as I go on, the grapefruit is so assertive and almost acidic on cask. Long finish with that bitter grapefruit and oak. My number two for the night.

22oz bottle, with black wax. Pours an orange-amber. Aroma of juicy grapefruit and resiny hops. Kinda like pot. Very sweet malt character. Wonderfully tasty. Medium bodied. I really enjoyed it. Nice to drink while sitting on the patio with some friends.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of tropical fruit hops, sweet caramel malt. Flavor brings even more of the sweet caramel malt with a sprinkling of some grapefruit and grass and mild bitterness in the background. Still tasty at this late date, but doesn’t have the lovely hop punch that one would expect from a fresh IPA from this brewery. 7-4-7-4-16/3.8
Rerate from fresher bottle. Aroma bursting with juicy grapefruit, mango, orange and green melon, green grapes, overflowing with hoppy goodness. Flavor just keeps right on going, juicy, juicy hops without any harshness. Malt in the background, but does its job. Great stuff.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20 beervana (781) - Libertyville, Illinois, USA - FEB 22, 2006
(02.18.06) Sampled at FebFest ’06, Libertyville, IL. Pours hazy amber with a small white head and no discernable carbonation. Hoppy nose. Medium bodied ale with moderate malt sweetness and pronounced citrus (grapefruit) hop flavor. Finishes with light malt flavor and lingering hop flavor and bitterness. Firm malt foundation. High hop profile but not aggressive. An excellent imperial IPA.

An orange to copper appearance with a white head. The aroma is citrus mainly oranges and very herbal. This smells like someone just fired up a big ol doobie (marijuana) Not that Ive ever done that. Well I didn’t inhale. The flavor is rather bitter but those herbal notes really come out in the flavor as well. A very different beer but I enjoyed it.

GABF 2004. Yellow-amber in color, lightly cloudy. Head is spare, white, and mostly diminishing. Fair lacing. Big spruce resin aroma, stingingly strong. Heavy, long bitterness. Full, oily mouthfeel with average carbonation - just the way I love my IPAs. Very good stuff.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jaymobrown (1457) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2007
Smooth beautiful hoppy beer. Golden hue. Small white head. Not a really big nose. Hops, fruits, malts, caramel. Long finish. I loved sipping on this. Worth while to go get. It doesn’t come around that often.
