2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Bierkrug (1666) - Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), - AUG 7, 2010
500 ML bottle in Germany. Pours a copper deep color, looks good. Head is off white and aroma is, metalic and strong. Taste is overpowering and metal like. Palate is much the same. To me tastes more like a Heller Bock but over all a good beer just not my taste at all.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - MAY 25, 2011
Absolut gelungener Bock! 11/12/12/13/1/12
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 crossovert (2786) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 21, 2011
500ml bottle, mindestens haltbar bis: 04.11.11.
It pours with one of the most beautiful heads I have seen on on a beer, it is a tannish color with almost a hint of amber to it The beer is also a beautiful orange/amber/gold. The large carbonation bubbles at the bottom of the glass bring it down to a 4.5.
The smell is super fruity. It definitely has the smell of a port or cognac, alcoholic with dark fruit notes and some nuttiness. It also has a nice caramel malt scent with some leathery notes and a hint of cocoa. Complex for its relatively mild abv for the style.
The flavor is, as expected, fruity and alcoholic. Still with notes of cognac. It has a great deal of sugary burnt caramel, dark fruits, toasted nuts, and some dark bread notes. It is a bit rough on the edges, and a bit sweet, but overall a pretty tasty doppelbock. The mouthfeel is decently thick with an interesting carbonation.
Overall a solid doppelbock, ,ind of unexpected.
