4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap at The Wheatsheaf, Shedfield. Aroma of grain, fruit and spicy, peppery hop. Sparkling golden colour. The taste is where this beer shines. It is slightly sweet to start then bitterness becomes dominant. Crisp and refreshing, biscuit malt and fruit flavours of lychee, pineapple and pear. Excellent, long dry finish. For a strong beer (by British standards) this is an exceptionally quaffable ale. Best drunk straight from the tap at The Wheatsheaf where it pours continually, such is it’s popularity. Exceptional in every respect.

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Guide Dog, Southampton. Sweet and juicy with fragrant hops that incline toward being a little too bitter for my taste. Fewer hops and I’d enjoy this.

Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Lightly hazy gold beer, small bubbly white head. Palate is light and dry. Modest fine carbonation. Light malts with a honey sweetness that goes well with the mild orangey hops. Light dry finish. All right.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden colour, floral and honeyish aroma. Fruity and a little bit spicy in the palate. Can taste alcohol, which I don’t normally appreciate in a standard cask ale.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask. The pour’s deep gold with a small creamy head. The nose is floral hop, some buttered bread. Apples. Quite malty. The taste is more buttery bread, some sweet fruits and syrup. Light floral hop finish. Overall, perfectly reasonable. A nice, hoppy bitter.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear light gold, thin tight head; this one begins by lulling you with some luscious soft fruitiness and sweetish malt, before hitting you with an increasingly aggressive bitterness which goes on to dominate the finish; full mouthfeel; it’s good, if a shade too feisty for me.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Flowerpots in Cheriton. Pale amber with a ring of white head; the aroma is grainy with some honey; a rich, syrupy, texture, full bodied and not too sweet, with some resinous hops that kick in straightaway and build towards the finish, leaving a lingering dry spiciness.
