Reviewed 2/9/13. 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. Apparently brewed by Skagit River Brewery, and the bottle says 6.5%. A: Pours a moderately hazy copper color. The head is disappointingly small; an aggressive pour only yielded a one finger light cream color. Having said that, the retention of the dinky head is excellent, and the lacing left down the glass is beautiful. S: This one seems malty. Very little hops are prevalent aside from a hint of balancing pine; it’s mostly biscuit, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, butterscotch, and marzipan on the nose. It comes off like an English-style IPA - and not a great one, either. T: Uh oh. As soon as this hits the tongue, a wave of nondescript, generic bitterness scrapes the tongue harshly at first. It’s just about the most unpleasant grapefruit-forward hop profile I’ve ever encountered. This soon gives way to another massive wave of diacetyl and (seemingly) battery acid. And then the bitterness becomes medicinal. And then the general flavor profile becomes metallic. And then the nasty hops intermingle with the buttery malt/yeast and becomes vomit-like in flavor. And then I get the urge to drainpour this. And then I retch after choking down another swig of this stuff. And then I drainpour this for real. M: The texture doesn’t seem so horrid at first...right up until the sharp coarseness of the body and unpleasant dryness brings out the nasty bitterness in the worst way possible. It even feels gross beyond just the flavors. O: Welp, I think we found a gold standard for how bad an IPA can get - it tastes like ’crappy homebrew’ levels of bad. I’d even surmise the year-old bottle of Torpedo I’ve got stashed away would be better than this. Avoid like the plague!

A very grassy almost a medicinal aroma come from this cloudy pale nrew with a grear whiteish head. The taste is hoppy and slightly malty. The brew has a home brew taste. There is an off taste bitterness that is no bueno. It looks like a hef and tastes like a bitter ass. Its not a bad brew but its a homebrew tasting beer.

On draft at the brewpub in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. Came in the glass a cloudy gold with a nice white head. Nose of floral and citrus hop;s. Medium body. Flavor is caramel malts with the floral and citrus hops backed up by some tropical fruit. This is a really big flavored IPA and with the bitter finish flies right down my runway.

Bomber poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of butterscotch, carmel, vanilla, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness, light butterscotch and light grapefruit zest with a smooth dry bitter lingering earthy grapefruit zest finish.

2014-04-18, draught at the brewpub, 6-3-6-3-12=30
Cloudy blond color with creamy head. Nice hoppy aroma, but also a bit cheesy. Dry mouthfeel, leaner than expected; some malt flavor, with a hay character; very strong bitterness, maybe too strong in the final with a chicory impression, with a lot of hop oils, a bit grassy, leafy hops.
An APA, rather messy.

2012-08-07, bottle from QFC - Seattle (Ballard), 7-4-7-5-14=37

Hazy amber color; medium sized head. The aroma is a mix of caramel and resiny and fruity hops, nice. Quite good caramel and toffee flavor, with moderate residual sweetness; imposing hopping, very resiny, abrasive almost, with some bitter oranges fruitiness; very long final, strong.
Bold IPA, not as sticky as a Double IPA, but as hopped.

Bomber. Appearance is an orange tinted golden color with a half-inch of white foam. Mostly apricot, citrus and barley in the aroma with bready malt notes around the edges. The taste has more of a bitter, herbal quality to it from the hops in addition to some orange citrus, honey and biscuit malt flavors. Standard medium-level carbonation in the body with more herbal hoppiness in the finish. Worth a try if it’s on hand but probably not worth seeking out.

650ml bottle pours a golden orangeish color with 2 fingers of white head which leaves some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is bold citrus hops. Taste is big citrusy and pine hop bitterness with not quite enough malt to tame the bitterness. This is a very bitter IPA which was somewhat enjoyable, but not quite there.
