Sampled at Portland International Beer Fest. This beer is loaded with sweet aromatics of caramel, coconut, vanilla, and butterscotch. It is very rich and concentrated with big, but balanced flavors. The hops come through barely and the oak is really strong and sweet throughout and lends some astringency to the finish. Solid beer for the style.

Pours out a nice orange color with very little head. Smell was a bit funky. Taste was tart, not the usual malt and hops of a standard barleywine, but interesting none the less. Very drinkable. I’d try it again.

Sampled on tap at SIB, pours orange amber. Aroma and flavour of caramel, toffee, dried fruits, dark malts and wood. Excellent.

Handbottle thanks to Kan for sharing this! Poured a clear amber orange with minimal head. Aroma was full of oak and bourbon with a bit of underlying caramel. Flavor began with oak and caramel with a bourbon finish and an odd bitter aftertaste.

Handbottle from a recent trade... Pours a somewhat muddled caramel reddish brown with a pretty non-existent flimsy thin bubbly head... Aroma of oak and a very slight hint of bourbon... Oaky and caramel malt with some peat with a fair amount of heat and a spicy finish. Carbonation was present but somewhat subtle in nature.

Draft @ Browuers; clear dark brown trace white head; aromas of caramel, booze, light smoke, dried malt; bourbon, wood and booze obvious as well; yummy flavor mix of bourbon, caramel; thin texture and a smooth sipper; creamy malt and caramel with boozy notes; dry, sticky mouthfeel; pretty tasty stuff

A very cool beer at Uber Tavern. Drank with Alex and Ben. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head. The aroma is distinctly bourbon and wood, earthy. A smooth dry flavor of bourbon, wood, light fruity flavors and toasted malts. Smooth and satisfying. Dry and sweet, but not cloying.

Clear dark brown pour, ring of off white bubbles. Aroma is boozy and loaded with vanilla and bourbon, and oddly a little smokey. Tastes slightly caramelly, but not very sweet or cloying. Lots of bourbon, a little dark fruitiness, vanilla, oak, a hint of earthy hops. This has a surprisingly light body for a 10 percent barleywine and goes down quickly and smoothly for how boozy it is. Nice, I wish I could have stuck around for a second one.

Rich red color with a light browned cream layer. Wonderful tendrils of Bookers Bourbon with its well-stated nuances of Vanilla mingling with restrained fruitiness typical of an aged barleywine/American strong ale and light tobacco. Easy vanilla tobacco flavors woven seamlessly throughout. Very little if any "alcoholness" or ethyls. Smoothly Bookers. Tinges of oak, caramel, and wood, but incredibly well nuanced. More of a bourbon-aged strong ale than a barleywine. No traces of hops, except, perhaps, for some flickers of fruitiness.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2010 On draft at Uber. Pours a reddish brown with little to no off-white head. *Crazy* complex aroma, with a flavor to match. Wood first. Bourbon next. Caramel, cherries, and alcohol after that. Even a bit of red wine, odd as that seems. Lots of burn - this one will definitely knock you back. I got an earthy, almost grassy note - but this one is dominated by oak and booze, and is really lacking balance for all its complexity. It makes me want a version with less alcohol that’s fermented with brett.
