4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20 StumpMe (30) - Bellingham, USA - MAY 7, 2007
UPDATED: MAY 24, 2007 wow, Very easy to drink, but don’t drink it too fast, that ten percent alcohol will sneek up on you! I’m a big fan of dark beers, and out of the stouts I’ve tried this one is my favorite. smells like vanilla with lightly roasted notes. Very sweet, chocolate tasting. It definitely is a mouth-full you can almost chew on it!
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - DEC 14, 2007
On tap at the 2007 GABF: Barely transparent dark mahogany with a frothy dark tan, full-lacing head. Aroma of rich sweet caramel and dark chocolate with some dark fruity esters. Body starts with a dense, creamy caramel and dark fruity chocolate complexity toward a bittersweet, rich, yet smooth finish with some lingering dark chocolate. A very nice imperial stout.

GABF 2007. This is one sick duck. An excellent brew. Went down really easy. Creamy chocolate.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bobbrew (7) - Yacolt, Washington, USA - JUL 2, 2007 does not count
On tap at SIB June 2007: If I was served this beer blind, I’d never identify it as an Imperial Stout but would definitely identify it as a world class beer. Unlike almost anything I’ve ever tasted! The Piraat soaked French Oak totally transforms this Imp Stout into something totally unique. smooth and mellow. I’m not a big fan of Bourbon Oaked beers but I would love to have more that are aged like this one. Other reviewers commented that this beer needs age. I disagree! It’s totally smooth right now and I can’t see how it could improve over the years. If you do have some 5 or 10 years from now, I’d love to try it.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - FEB 27, 2007
This might just be the one beer that has the worst name ever, while the beer in the bottle is damned tasty. Rich notes of chocolate, light roast, vanilla, caramel and molasses. Mouthfeel is full bodied and velvety smooth. Flavor is much like the nose with molasses and chocolate being the most prominant, and flavors like roasted coffee taking a backseat. A really tasty Imperial Stout. A really bad name.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 glkaiser (1214) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 2, 2007
SIB Rum Barrel Version. Black w/ big brown head, looks wonderful. Oak, vanilla and chocolate in the aroma. I love the oak in this...but it’s a bit sweet and too hot. Def. needs some time, but still damned tasty.

lightly tan head on a 4oz taster pour. got the sense of some dark fruits mixed in with a light bourbon tinge to the flavor. really liked this.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 bitbucket (2112) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - JUN 30, 2007
Draft at SIB. Comments apply to the rum barrel version. Opaque black pour with a thin but lacy tan head. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Light coffee aroma, coffee and chocolate taste leading to a bittersweet oaky finish. Nice use of oak, not overpowering.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BrewDad (4256) - Olympia, USA - JUL 1, 2007
[Taster – Seattle International Beerfest]
Rum Barrel Version – This was a deep dark black color with a thin head. Strong aroma of wood and alcohol. The beer tasted strong wood flavor with deep dark crystal malts. Has some coffee notes along with a chocolate flavor at the finish. Great drinking beer will mellow with age would like to try in about 6 months.

GABF 2007: Poured black with a beige head. The aroma was light roasty and doughy. The aroma had a sweetness to it. The flavor was roasty sweet with a hint of fruit. some chocolate in the middle. Very hoppy piny finish. Dry moderately bitter finish with a medium to full body. Silky mouthfeel.
