BeerPrince (1701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 19, 2008
Dark brown with small oily head. Aroma is faint with some coffee and roasted malt with a touch of alcohol. Flavour is raosty and dark but not overly malty or complex. Pretty simple compared to the other big guns out there.

TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - JAN 7, 2008
Draft @ GABF (numerous samples): Penetrable black with mahogany highlights. Light-beige ring of head. Yeasty, appley, soy-sauce-laden aroma. Muted notes of tar, dark chocolate, molasses, orange and resin. Unpleasantly prickly and fuzzy on the palate. Viscous body. Green apples are immediately apparent, but are thankfully buried by the immense viscosity , gooey residuals and slightly crunchy roast. Biscuity Munich character briefly exudes at the center as deep-rooted char begins to exert its strength as it snugly grips the palate. Sharp alcohol is a detriment to the flavor profile, and notes of burnt rubber further compound the sharpness as well as the grainy malt aspects. Malt complexity and extraction are both very poor. Citric hops lend some acidity but largely go unnoticed due to the overly weighty sweetness. Tangy molasses clashes with an odd and cloying mixture of medicine and overripe plums. Finishes sugary sweet, underattenuated, tackily yeasty and astringently charred. Riddled with flaws.

CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - DEC 14, 2007
On tap at the 2007 GABF: Barely transparent dark mahogany with a frothy dark tan, full-lacing head. Aroma of rich sweet caramel and dark chocolate with some dark fruity esters. Body starts with a dense, creamy caramel and dark fruity chocolate complexity toward a bittersweet, rich, yet smooth finish with some lingering dark chocolate. A very nice imperial stout.
