Great local brew. I have the honor of knowing one of the owners and visited while they made a batch of this lovely stout. Believe it or not they import quality montons for this and only use quality products. If only every brewery had such commitment. They don’t try to clear up the beer that much by using methods that can reduce the quality, it’s a little cloudy and I love it that way.

On tap at the Brewery. Roastiness and a mild sour note. Dark Brown with a decent thick head and lacing. Coffee, chocolate and some cherry notes. It’s got some good stouty flavor that comes thru at the end.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2012 Growler fill from the brewery. Finally! Seems like forever I’ve been waiting for this to come back. Pours a mostly-opaque brown/black with a nice thick head that fades fairly quickly. Definitely smells of chocolate, and tastes of it as well. Very drinkable, I was able to put down the growler in one sitting and I’m not a huge drinker. This is even better than I remember it being in the past.

Appearance: Ribena/blackcurrant colour with a small white head. Aroma: Slight smoke and a hint of cream. Flavour: Nice, slightly malty, cream, oats and a long dry finish. Solid enough.

draft at brewpub- superbly drinkable- a real enjoyable treat, and the best beer FB makes in my opinion. Well done.

Pouring at BCTC. Pours a clear brown to black with a thin white head. Caramel and wet grain on the nose, with some chocolate, roast, and a hint of coffee. Flavors echo the nose with some chocolate and coffee touches. Finishes with a light bitterness.

Cask at 3rd Manhattan Cask Fest. Deep brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is lovely. Soft cocoa and milk chocolate. Light earthiness as well. The flavour is quite different from the aroma. More acidic and less smooth than I would have imagined. Malts seem slightly astringent as well. More coffee roastiness and a light herbal/root beer like spiciness. Meh... it’s not really all that interesting.

12 oz. bottle from the brewery - Pours a clear brown color with a huge light tan head. Seems a little over carbonated. Aroma is oxidized roasted malt. Flavor is light roasted malt, esters, and some oxidation. Light fizzy mouthfeel. Medium body. A decent beer, but it may have been past its prime. The cool label gets a few extra overall points from me.

Pours almost black with a bit of ruby hue. A nice fluffy white head to cap it off. A nice thick lacing clings to glass as I drink it. Smell is mostly of roasted malt. The taste is of roasted malt as well as hints of chocolate and a touch of hop bitterness to round out the finish. This brew goes down smooth and easy. It is a bit on the lighter side for an oatmeal scout and my opinion, but still very nice overall. A very pleasant brew overall. I put down this rather large glass without any trouble and could have gone for another. I would definitely get this one again. Reviewed on: 10-12-2008

12oz bottle courtesy of cbkschubert. Good oatmeal and caramel aroma. Black body with big tan head and some lacing. Cramy roasty and caramel were blened well. Smooth roasted toffee on the palate. Good mix found in this one. If my favorite style was stout would probly have a sixer of this in the fridge if I just wanted to drink a beer of that style. Thanks Craig
