COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A big beer, inspired by the "mighty" Paul Jackson (the brewery's resident "anything you need me to do" guy). The "Herc" is Big! Big in body, big in flavor, big in finish, and truly is the "Heavy Support" in the Flying Bison Hangar.

Bottle: Courtesy of rudolf via Secret Santa. Aroma of caramel apples, fruit, and a hint of alcohol. Pours a hazy brownish-orange with an off-white ring for a head. Almost looks like apple cider with a small head. Flavor is lots of caramel apple up front. Real big piney and flowery hopped finish lingers for a while on the palate. Only light alcohol is noticeable in the finish behind all the hops. Mouthfeel is lightly oily with very little carbonation. Decent, but some aging is probably needed for improvement.

BCTC friday night tasting thanks to Rudy. This was a big strong ale. Aroma is sweet caramel malts friuty esters like figs, and an alcohol kick as it warmed. Flavor of more sweet malt with a moderate hop backbone, more alcohol, and finishes off a bit weak and not enough body in the end. Pretty tasty though.

This is another example of well crafted strong ale. Smooth and drinkable despite its powerful alcohol content. hard tio guess that is ale kick almost 10 percent .

Bottled. Nice big beer. Good malt flavor with a alcohol punch. Nice and smooth.

Bottle via Rudolph. Dark amber body with a mdeium creamy beige head (3+) Substantial caramel malt in the aroma is sufficient that I check my moustache for remains of the ice cream topping I had earlier in the evening, but it is in fact coming from the beer! Just enough hop presence in the nose to mix it up a little. First sip feints with an up front hop bite, but quickly reveals that the deep caramel foundations are the true star of the show. Hop bitterness returns in the aftertaste, quick on the hills of light alcohol. Despite the warming quality sneaking up on you, the alcohol in this is remarkably subdued, only really becoming noticable as the glass warms up. By the time the booze makes its way from the flavour to the aroma you have already been seduced. Palate lacks body, but makes up for it in a smooth creamy mouthfeel. Dangerously drinkable. Thanks very much Rudy! One of the most enjoyable brews I have had in a while... consumed while preparing a presentation on Life Cycle Assessment of Beverage Containers no less :)

Aroma is a rich malt, butterscotch and caramel, clear ruby, pours a miniscule toffee head, lots of pretty lace. Full malt flavour start, hops, pit fruit, almonds some woody notes. Very well balanced, full bodied, beautiful mouthfeel, warming, bitter alcohol is quite subtle. Splendid! Thanks rudolf!

Two bottles shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of rudolf. Thanks rudolf! Pours a clear dark ruby with a spare diminishing fizzy white head. Very sweet aroma of caremel malt, brown sugar, spices and alcohol. In my notes I described the flavour as ’a hoppy fruity alcoholy Ale’ so there ya go. The alcohol is quite prominent. Like the others said, it’s simple but enjoyable.

Two bottles shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy & tupalev - courtesy of rudolf. Big thanks to Rudy for passing these along to Harry & I during our visit to Buffalo a couple of weeks ago. Pours a clear, dark mahogany with a small white head. Nose is quite sweet, with prominent brown sugar and caramel, and good hop notes coming up behind. Flavour is quite sweet to start, almost cloying, but the boozy warmth and bitter hops take control quickly, leading to a lingering finish. A pretty simple take on the style, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle, thanks Rudy. Love the whole aviation lingo and theme having grown up near a Canadian Air Forces Base. Medium brown, bubbly white head. Some malt and hops in mild aroma - almost cola like. Initial hops (which were not even close to being in the aroma) in taste up front and malt sweetness. A little fruity, lots of roof of your mouth citrus and even some brown sugar notes. Lingering malt and alcohol. Pretty dark good - short, simple and it went to our heads quickly, but solid.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2006 Bottle (2x12oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - thanks to Rudolf for the bottles. Pours deep clear ruby with a thin to non-existent off-white head. Mild aroma, what I could detect was mild caramel malt, mild dry hops, and alcohol - nominally sweet smelling. Taste is a decent balance of roast malt and hop and alcohol bitterness, some yeast - this has a long bitter alcohol finish and really packs a wollop. MIldly lively mouthfeel, quite sharlply alcoholic. This is pretty straightforward and simple, but solid.
