UPDATED: FEB 10, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy medium brown pour wtih a small whitish head. Some caramel, dark dried fruits, booze, and some good hops as well. Flavor is sweet and frutiy with nice woodsy notes but the beer is well balanced with a nice dose of hops. This is a well crafted beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Bottled labeled Bottled on -> 2007. Poured a deep, deep amber (almost brown) color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, nuts, dark fruits, and toasty. Tastes of caramel, the same nuttiness, dark fruits, and had a lighter earthiness. Alcohol content well hidden.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle saved for me by Tim the owner. Barrleywine and scotch like mouthfeel. Good strong. I can see why this went quickly. Worth a premium price.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle via Rudolph. Dark amber body with a mdeium creamy beige head (3+) Substantial caramel malt in the aroma is sufficient that I check my moustache for remains of the ice cream topping I had earlier in the evening, but it is in fact coming from the beer! Just enough hop presence in the nose to mix it up a little. First sip feints with an up front hop bite, but quickly reveals that the deep caramel foundations are the true star of the show. Hop bitterness returns in the aftertaste, quick on the hills of light alcohol. Despite the warming quality sneaking up on you, the alcohol in this is remarkably subdued, only really becoming noticable as the glass warms up. By the time the booze makes its way from the flavour to the aroma you have already been seduced. Palate lacks body, but makes up for it in a smooth creamy mouthfeel. Dangerously drinkable. Thanks very much Rudy! One of the most enjoyable brews I have had in a while... consumed while preparing a presentation on Life Cycle Assessment of Beverage Containers no less :)

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2006 bottle sampled on 3/12/07 courtesy of Rudolf: Pours a transparent bright copper with a frothy, nicely-lacing off-white head. Aroma of fresher piny hops with some light caramel malt. Body starts with a nice, caramel malty sweetness and good fresh hoppy balance toward a crisp, bittersweet finish. A pretty good American strong ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2006 Bottle (2x12oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - thanks to Rudolf for the bottles. Pours deep clear ruby with a thin to non-existent off-white head. Mild aroma, what I could detect was mild caramel malt, mild dry hops, and alcohol - nominally sweet smelling. Taste is a decent balance of roast malt and hop and alcohol bitterness, some yeast - this has a long bitter alcohol finish and really packs a wollop. MIldly lively mouthfeel, quite sharlply alcoholic. This is pretty straightforward and simple, but solid.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Cole’s in Buffalo, NY. Pours orange brown with an off white head. Sweet caramel malt in the aroma with a bit of floral hops. The flavor brings a nice malty sweetness, with dried fruit, and a hit of bitter hops in the finish. Well balanced and drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Two bottles shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of rudolf. Thanks rudolf! Pours a clear dark ruby with a spare diminishing fizzy white head. Very sweet aroma of caremel malt, brown sugar, spices and alcohol. In my notes I described the flavour as ’a hoppy fruity alcoholy Ale’ so there ya go. The alcohol is quite prominent. Like the others said, it’s simple but enjoyable.
