COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A big beer, inspired by the "mighty" Paul Jackson (the brewery's resident "anything you need me to do" guy). The "Herc" is Big! Big in body, big in flavor, big in finish, and truly is the "Heavy Support" in the Flying Bison Hangar.

Bottle at Sterling Tavern. Pours a lightly hazy, firey amber color with a smaller cream colored head. Nice aroma of caramel, apricot, brown sugar, and lighter hops. Flavor is strong, nice and sweet with some caramel and toffee, fig, and some spicy hops in the finish. Medium to full bodied, alcohol detected, but not strong at all. Judging from the previous ratings, it looks like the booze might be calming a bit. Who knows. I liked it though.

Interesting color - hazy medium brown, with an orange tint. Small, cream colored head. The nose is fruity and candy-like. Big flavors and aromas. Malty with sugary toffee notes, alongside fruity tartness and a significant alcohol aroma. Has a smooth mouthfeel and a soft, creamy finish - reminiscent of sweetened condensed milk, but at the same time has a bit of a tangy bite.

I bought this 12 oz bottle at the Brewery in March for $4. Aroma is sweet caramel malts friuty esters like figs, and an alcohol kick as it warmed. Flavor of more sweet malt with a moderate hop backbone, more alcohol. Alot of alcohol but not as thick as most Barleywines.

One of those I don’t understand why it is ASL instead of Barley Wine, esp. when it says its barley wine on the bottle - no matter. It does seem to be a barley wine, orange, slightly cloudy, decent white remains on top. Really nice looking. Nose is sweet, sugary, some sort of baking spice, yeah and Cinnamon too. Palate is sticky sweet but not overwhelmingly despairingly sweet. Thanks for the bottle Ron!

12 oz bottle purchased from the brewery a few months ago. Got one to hold and one to drink now. Looks orange-brown, but appears a hazy opaque mahogany when held to the light. Smells of nutmeg, cinnamon, raisin. A bit of brown sugar and honey as well. Taste is similar - smooth and sweet with the fruitiness you’d expect.

Presentation: It was poured from a growler, which was filled up at the Flying Bison Brewery, into a tulip glass. Appearance: This beer has a dark coppery color with a about a two finger tall head on top. The head is slightly off white in color and slowly fades to a ring of lacey foam as I slowly sip it down. As it slides down the glass it coats the glass and leaves some slick spotty lace behind. Smell: The aroma is full off sweet caramel and roasty malt with some light sweet boozy hints and just the slightest touch of leafy hops. Taste/Palate: There is a big malty sweet character here with notes of over ripe pear cover with uber sweet caramel and roasted gain. The ABV is noticeable but in a mellow warm way. Leafy hop flavor and bitterness is very light and it adds only adds a light touch bitterness towards the finish. Its full body has a firm sticky texture with just enough soft carbonation to give it some life. Notes: It’s big and malty, just the way I like it.

12oz bottle. Bottled labeled Bottled on -> 2007. Poured a deep, deep amber (almost brown) color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, nuts, dark fruits, and toasty. Tastes of caramel, the same nuttiness, dark fruits, and had a lighter earthiness. Alcohol content well hidden.

Good ale - a real deep throaty barley taste. Nice brown color with not much of a head when poured. And the fact that the beer is named after a local airforce branch is two thumbs up in my book

2007 12 oz. bottle from the brewery - Pours a hazy amber color with a thin off white head that faded to nothing quickly. Faint spotty lacing. Low carbonation. Aroma is toasted and caramel malt, and esters. Flavor is much of the same. There is a touch of bitterness lingering. Alcohol is noticeable. Medium to full body. A nice BW.

Bottle from Tony @ IP school last fall. Fantastic aroma and mouth feel. Quite a complex flavor combination: caramel, malty, with some distinct sweetness to offset the bitterness of the hoppiness. A little bit much alcohol on the finish, but quite delicious none-the-less. New bottle describes contents as a Barley Wine, not a Strong Ale.

left over bottle from 2005 left behind by cbk... thank you, sir. hazy amber honey color with a small creamy tan head that i worked really hard to get. seems to be some clumpy black yeast floating around in there as well. a distinct cocoa butter aroma leads the way... it is followed up by notes of chocolate, vanilla, honey, orange, cinnamon, a bit of wood and some caramel-y/butterscotch. it has a medium body although it gets fairly thick at times.... yet it is not sweet. which, makes it a treat to drink. the flavor pretty much mirrors the aroma with a few additions... there is a small roasty bitterness on the finish as it warms up and a bunch of woody aged/spent graininess. this thing has great balance... nothing seems to want to stand out. 7/3/7/4/16/3.6
