JoeMcPhee (3443), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 30, 2008 Cask at Manhattan Cask Festival. Clear amber beer. Fairly nutty and caramelly. Flavour is very sweet with an unappealing sort of wet dog character. Bitter, but without being all that hoppy. Sticky and sweet palate that comes across as underattenuated, underhopped, or both. Meh. mtoast (273), City of Rust, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 12, 2007 On tap 9/7/07. Murky orange in color with everlasting foam, no lacing though. Aroma is a mess, way too much malt and a very confused hop profile. Flavor is just as confused, very muddled, beat over the head with malt and yeast one second and then a mouth puckering bitterness pounds your taste buds. Very little hop flavor, just bitterness and a fairly thick mouthfeel. TomDecapolis (2194), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 1, 2007 On tap at Ortinos Northside. Pours a lightly hazy deep golden amber with a medium off white creamy head that laced. Aroma was earthy, yeasty, some caramel and light citrus. Flavor of earthy, lightly spicy hops with a touch of citrus. Very grassy hop flavor not all that appealing. Some toffee and nuts as it warmed. Not what I like in my DIPAs. I will be sticking to the Pliny they have on tap tonight. egajdzis (2801), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 18, 2007 Poured an amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, nuts, floral hops, citrus, and grainy malts. Taste of citrus fruits, some grapefruit, nuts, bread, toffee malts, and low bitterness in the finish. Hawksfan17 (576), Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 10, 2007 Pours amber with a steady white head. Sweet but faint smell. Tastes malty, with notes of alcohol. This is followed by citrus hop flavor. I did not think this was hoppy enough to be a double IPA.
