2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 JoeMcPhee (6967) - Toronto, ON, - MAR 30, 2008
Cask at Manhattan Cask Festival. Clear amber beer. Fairly nutty and caramelly. Flavour is very sweet with an unappealing sort of wet dog character. Bitter, but without being all that hoppy. Sticky and sweet palate that comes across as underattenuated, underhopped, or both. Meh.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 mtoast (336) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 12, 2007
On tap 9/7/07. Murky orange in color with everlasting foam, no lacing though. Aroma is a mess, way too much malt and a very confused hop profile. Flavor is just as confused, very muddled, beat over the head with malt and yeast one second and then a mouth puckering bitterness pounds your taste buds. Very little hop flavor, just bitterness and a fairly thick mouthfeel.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 TomDecapolis (4006) - Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 1, 2007
On tap at Ortinos Northside. Pours a lightly hazy deep golden amber with a medium off white creamy head that laced. Aroma was earthy, yeasty, some caramel and light citrus. Flavor of earthy, lightly spicy hops with a touch of citrus. Very grassy hop flavor not all that appealing. Some toffee and nuts as it warmed. Not what I like in my DIPAs. I will be sticking to the Pliny they have on tap tonight.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 egajdzis (4587) - Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 18, 2007
Poured an amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, nuts, floral hops, citrus, and grainy malts. Taste of citrus fruits, some grapefruit, nuts, bread, toffee malts, and low bitterness in the finish.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Hawksfan17 (890) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 10, 2007
Pours amber with a steady white head. Sweet but faint smell. Tastes malty, with notes of alcohol. This is followed by citrus hop flavor. I did not think this was hoppy enough to be a double IPA.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Arayaga2 (1502) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 29, 2007
Headless medium brown without much aroma. Taste honey and vinegar, and light on hops. Carbonation is pretty good.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 9, 2007
Draft at Grey Lodge - listed as Warbird. Caramel-amber color with a smallish head. Aroma had some citrus hop, but was overwhelmingly dominated by fruit and sweet malt aroma. Taste was malty and sweet, but a Double IPA? I think not. Drinkable, but I had to knock off another point for this beer’s attempt to masquerade as a Double IPA.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocLock (5975) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 4, 2007
Draft at Capone’s. Deep copper pour with aroma of caramel malt, hops, black pepper, some bready anf spicy notes. Medium palate with bready caramel malt flavor coupled with solid hops, floral notes, and black pepper. I had 2 pints of this, and enjoyed it.

On draft. Pours amber with a decent off-white head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, and hops. The flavor is sweet, caramel, slight fruit, and flora bitterness. Good brew.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - MAR 29, 2007
Growler, from Premier Gourmet. Sort of strawberry nose, but weak, amber body, fairly dense whitish head. Bitter, syrupy, some of that strawberry persists into the flavor, not very good. Perhaps the worst example of this style that I’ve tried.
