Brewed exclusively for the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference (and a collaborative project with Reyes Beverage Group), Bloodline is an intensely-hopped IPA brewed with Blood Orange peel and juice.

According to our Brewmaster Matt Brophy, the result is a flavor profile that harnessed the best aspects of both the hops (Warrior, Citra, and Galaxy) and the citrus. He and his brewing team are very fond of hop-based citrus aromas, so experimenting with actual citrus was a natural extension of that.

2014 version is brewed with Northern Brewer, Citra and Galaxy.

Golden gold ale with a decent head. Didn’t last too long. Bottle at Coach House Grill in Harper’s Ferry. Aromas were mostly hoppy with lots of citrus which is inherent in an ipa anyway. But the blood orange flavor came through better in the mouth than the nose. Not bad at all.

Tap @ Pasture. Hazy apricot worth creamy head and decent lacing. Smells a little like lipstick, peach, grapefruit,.and orange. First sip is a little grainy, then some citrus and hops comes in,.then ends kind of watery citrus.

Aromas of pines, caramel, amber malts, cinnamon, hops, grapefruit, orange peel and malt syrup. Pours a dark gold with a very thin foam. Taste is big citrus, tangerine, orange juice, orange peel, grapefruit, apricot and fruit juice dominate the palate. Noticeable honey, caramel, malt syrup, sugared orange juice, hop resin, and dankness come mid palate. Finishes dry and bitter with residual hop oils and dankness. Overall, a well done IPA. Very refreshing and balanced.
