Brewed exclusively for the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference (and a collaborative project with Reyes Beverage Group), Bloodline is an intensely-hopped IPA brewed with Blood Orange peel and juice.

According to our Brewmaster Matt Brophy, the result is a flavor profile that harnessed the best aspects of both the hops (Warrior, Citra, and Galaxy) and the citrus. He and his brewing team are very fond of hop-based citrus aromas, so experimenting with actual citrus was a natural extension of that.

2014 version is brewed with Northern Brewer, Citra and Galaxy.

I was super excited to try this beer. It kind of let me down a little bit. The aroma and color were great. The taste was hoppy which I tend to shy away from. Overall it was still a very good beer, but I thought the flavor would be stronger.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/13/15

Aroma: The nose is mostly citrus/orange, nice hop presence, some light pale malts
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear orange color with a lasting, thick, frothy head and heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor is pretty nice as well, clean and hoppy, lightly sweet, and medium bitter
Palate: This one has a very nice mouthfeel, smooth, clean, and crisp, with a nice, dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a very nice beer, with a great mouthfeel. It drinks very nicely, the feel is the standout for me. I could drink a bunch of this.

Delicious IPA! Light amber pour with an off-white head. The nose was quite hoppy with hints of citrus (especially oranges) and a bit of earthy breadiness. The flavors were very hoppy and delicious, with notes of flowery hops, pine, earth, oranges, bread and herbs.

Heavy aromas of blood orange and pink grapefruit. Clear orange-gold with a fairly lasting white head. Dry, very citrusy. Medium bodied.

From the six pack of bottles, has a slightly orange look to it. Has some spicy hops, sweet at first, ends up a bitter with orange slash grapefruit peel. This is a good one for a hot summer night (even if itís still spring). This is the craft beer answer to all the shandy type stuff thatís going around. The hops and higher alcohol are a breath of fresh air. Serve ice cold and year round.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours amber gold with a white head. Aroma of citrus orange (or at least citrus). Med body. Flavor is orange and very slightly roasty malt. Very smooth, not quite orange zest, but close. Itís citrus/orange. Hop? Guess so.

On tap at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours dark golden with a rich off-white head and a citrus aroma. There is a smooth pale malt flavor with a very nice hop profile. Lots of citrus and a very bitter finish.

Hazy deep golden with a thin tight, foamy white head. Bitter and kinda meaty flavor with some bitter grapefruit peel and something juicy and something like ground sausage. Big bright but bitter flavor with some tones of blood orange and grapefruit and bitter leafiness. Finishes earthy bitter with bitter citrus peel and a yeasty bitterness.

Poured from a bottle. Bottom line: doesnít look blood orange or taste blood orange. A little hoppy, a little grape fruity, not bad.
