A combative collaboration between Flying Dog and Brewdog

LoFi (1595) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - DEC 6, 2012
Bottle. Paler than the BrewDog, dark amber to light copper, off-white head. Aroma: lots of white pepper, sweet maltiness. Taste: sweet maltiness, white pepper dominates, but also lots of other spices (this version also has kind of a Christmas feel), orange and sweet lemon. Medium bodied. This is a bit nasty.

jcos (1571) - Maryland, USA - DEC 5, 2012
Location/Date:Bottle on December 5th, 2012.

Appearance: Pours a cloud orange.
Aroma: Aroma of a hint of pumpkin, bready malt.
Taste: Faint bitterness in the form of spice, faint pumpkin(don’t know if I’m the only one tasting that), bready malt.
Palate:Medium light body.

Summary: Figured since I’ve already rated so many Flying Dog beers this week, why not one more?! I know the goal was to emulate an IPA, in that way I get the intentions of the spice, but it’s not the same. Interesting beer on it’s own merit though, guess it’s about how you package things. The more I drink it though, it tastes worse.

Bottle. Amber, slightly hazy. Very perfumy nose, like walking into a soap store. Lavender, roses, ginger, herbs, foresty flavours. Some vegetables, peppercorns. Really a lot of different things. Medium body, a bit of acidity. Malts, orange peel, cola. Some vanilla mango. Strange gruut. Very fruity, perhaps a bit overly spiced.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Oak Tree, 12/3/12

Aroma: The nose is kind of herbal, with a little bit of spice, some lemon, and some orange
Appearance: This one pours a cloudy dark orange color with a small, fizzy off-white head
Flavor: The taste has some spice notes, a kind of odd herbal presence, and some light citrus
Palate: A light-mid body, it has a tingly feel, with an almost juice-like consistency, and an odd finish
Overall Impression: I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, but it did sort of work based on what they were trying. Interesting really sums it up. It’s not an IPA, and it doesn’t totally work, but it is definitely interesting.

Countbeer (4709) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - DEC 2, 2012
Bottle: Medium sized, lively beige light tan colored head. Disappears pretty quick and leaves not much on top of an almost clear orange amber colored beer. Smell lots of grapefruit, herbs, spices, corn, grains, ginger, dust and marzepin. Taste is a mix if spicy herbs, grapefruit, orange peel, orange peel/grapefruit/plantish bitters, ginger, grains, some biscuit, clove drenched/cooked barley malts, some vegetables and more ginger and herbs. Aftertaste is sharper, spicy and bitter herbs and spices, some fruits like grapefruit, lemon and grapes. And there is also some ginger in the aftertaste. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium body and a light watery texture. Strange beer but not realy bad. In the beginning it’s quite tasty but after a while the mix of ginger and grapefruit does start to annoy.

Very spicy with lots of ginger cake and bay leaf. Very thin and watery compared to the Brewdog.

Geruch erinnert an Kräuterlimonade, weinartige Züge. Herb-süßlicher Antrunk. Mitte kräuterig und süß. Weinhefeartiger Abgang, verhalten trocken und bitter. Etwas irritierndes Bier.

mile (3118) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 29, 2012
Bottle. Light amber, hazy, small and fully diminishing head. Moderate and sweetish aroma, caramel, herbal spiciness (ginger), light berry fruitiness. Body is average and sweetish flavor with herbal spiciness, some caramel, berry fruitiness, light alcohol. Finish is average and sweetish, some caramel, herbal spiciness, some alcohol. Watery "beer” with lots of spiciness and too much alcohol in the finish.

Shared bottle. Pours pale golden with a white head. The herb aroma hits the nose at once. The same goes for flavor. This version is a bit more subtle than Brewdogs. The herbs blends more in with the beer and makes it more drinkable. An interesting brew...

.33l from BD webshop Pours a bit hazy orange with low head. Aroma is bitter. Herbs, citrusfruits, lime, ginger(?) and white pepper and mango. Flavor is bitter. Herbs, citrus fruits, malts and roots. Refrehing actually and nice! A bit better than BD version.
