COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dogtoberfest is a unique beer containing five premium malts. This lager draws its influence from the Vienna Marzen or Oktoberfest style. It is rich and malty with a sweet aroma and deep mahogany color.

Pours orangish/dark coppery (some ruby around the edges) with a medium white head. Aroma of malt, toffee, fruit. Malty tasting, with some nuts, cognac, and hops appearing at mid-palate. Finishes semi-dry and toffeeish, with a medium, firm, crisp palate. A quaffable marzen.

I actually like Marzens quite a bit, but this one represents a certain strain of that style I do not particularly care for. When I taste beers from Einbecker or Ayinger, the malt richness seems to spring from the beer’s very core--nothing is dressing. This beer, on the other hand, depends on lots of chocolate and even lightly burnt characteristics. Perhaps there is simply too much specialty malt without sufficient underlying pale malt. I just do not know.

A little early for octoberfest but maybe its just still too hot. The beer pours a dark roasted coffee color. Fair amount of malt aroma. The semi-sweet malt character is average at best. Light and dry on the palate, fairly smooth. A dry aftertaste ends an unimpressive marzen beer. Seek out others this fall.

Sweet malt nose with a hint of chocolate and noble hops. The head fell fast. Well made, but Marzen is a style that I have trouble getting into.

Small tan head, creamy with fair retention and decent laceing. Clear amber/red hued coloring. Clean malt nose, grainy, bready. Medium body, lightly creamy mouthfeel. Good, medium sweet malt character, lightly toasty, bready, slight nuttiness with a pleasently grainy aftertaste. An almost dry finish. I,m not much for the O-fest style, but this is a decent one.
