2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 Onenote81 (902) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 23, 2012
Originally reviewed: 11/6/08. Pours a deep amber color with a very small head and no retention or lacing. Weak appearance.
Smells sour like wine. A little alcohol scent. Smells a little off for a marzen.
Taste is a little similar to the smell. Mild malty flavors. Some roasted characteristics.
Not too bad, but not that great. I’ve had better marzens and was a little disappointed with this offering.

A bit of spice, otherwise it has a decent bready maltiness. Not bad, the spice wasn’t as bad some other Oktoberfests.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Johnsense (281) - - FEB 10, 2012
Clear amber pour, 2 fingers of frothy head. Bready aroma, caramel. Taste - Dark bread, some fruit, German hops, caramel - A bit bolder than the aroma but still a bit less than what I was expecting. Lighter mouthfeel than I would like in an O-fest beer. I like this brewery and this beer is OK, but I wish they went for something bolder.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Padilha (82) - BRAZIL - FEB 4, 2012
Cerveja avermelhada enferrujada, sabor bem lupulado e agradável, formando pouco creme.
O aroma é um pouco danificado, meio cáustico. Mas no geral é mais uma bela cerveja da Flying Dog, que nesta breja utitiliza o máximo de artefatos alemães, assim como o idealizador da cerveja.

UPDATED: FEB 29, 2012 Bottle. Copper colour with an off white head. Caramel and hoppy nose. Fresh caramel and fruity, hoppy flavour.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
A: Almost clear copper with a 1.5 finger light tan foam head that dissipates into a nice thick lacing and coating.
S: Slight hops and bread but mostly malts with caramel hints.
T: Strong malt and caramel hints with an underlying hops taste. Slight spices, though I can’t put my finger on it.
M: Low-medium carbonation, almost full bodied rather thick.
O: Decent beer, but not very complex a tad too thick for this style for my liking.

As far as Marzen goes, this was ok, pretty solid.
It had a nice spice bite of ginger and cinnamin. A yeasty caramel malt finish. Slightly peppery. Good.

Certainly not my favorite. Very basic malt from start to finish, kind of a bread taste in the middle. A bit of a miss from FD on this one.
