Double Dog Double Pale Ale Back by popular demand, our original "Wild Dog Release" is back, and this time it’s for good. Double Dog Double Pale Ale is a generously hopped ale with a deep red color and pours with a nice frothy head. The abundance of hops will conjure some provocative aromas with hints of raisins and citrus.

Backlog. Tried it bottled. Slightly too high in alcohol and sweetness for me.

12 oz bottled stamped "VINTAGE 11CC" (from June 2011 notes). Pours a nice reddish amber, nearly clear, with a short-lived but creamy tan head. Aroma: both hops and toasted malt evident. High ABV partially hidden, especially before warming. Floral and woodsy with a hint of citrus. After warming a bit, it has a very boozy aroma. Taste: imbalance of bitter over aromatic hops, with a pungent bitter quality that hits almost immediately and is all that remains in the finish. FD says IBU = 85 but it seems even higher. High ABV is all too apparent in the flavor. Aged bottle was smoother and more palatable. M - smooth; medium body with good carbonation ... but the 11.5% ABV adds an unpleasant burn. O - I had this immediately after finishing an excellent Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. A striking difference, with pronounced bitter hoppy flavor in the FD as well as a less attractive and LESS hoppy aroma. The FD is certainly challenging and seems unrefined by comparison, even allowing for a minor style difference. There’s nothing average about this beer, but that’s where my overall rating of it ends up.

Flaska.

Keg at the City Pub, Goteborg, 21/03/14. Hazed orange amber with a big old off white creamy head of bubbles. Nose is caramel malt, dark fruit, light roasty tones, spice, booze. Taste comprises light tropicals, orange rind, booze, toffee fudge, spice. Medium bodied +, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lightly warming booze. Ok but lacks a little depth for the ABV.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2014

Mar 2014 - Keg at Beer Temple Amsterdam. Orange / red, big foamy white head. Aroma - pine, grapefruit, rosewater. Body - medium, quite smooth, carbonation medium. Taste - similar to aroma. Sweet rosewater vibe. Nice. (3.7)

Sep 2014 - Bottle, 2 months old. Slightly hazy amber, still, small foamy off-white head. Aroma is mostly pine, spearmint, a touch musty. Body is medium, touch of spritz and slightly foamy. Taste is toffee, strong alcohol. Wow - tastes like hand sanitiser smells. Some pine and sweet caramel but I can’t really see past the sharp alcohol. Not good. I’d rather have a bog standard lager than this. (2.1)
