TampaBrew (715), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2009 Pours a deep ruby black. Nose is roast grain, coffee, chocolate, brown sugar and sweet molasses. Flavor is a light roast with bready and toasted dough notes. Slight hop bitterness. Medium bodied. iamqueensblvd (178), , Iowa, USA Jul 23, 2009 Great dark color with a lacy tan head. traditional porter nose. Only drawback here was that the roasted flavors were almost overpowering for my palate. pleasant mouthfeel. Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 23, 2009 Lousy, disturbed label. Dark, dark walnut brown, tan head. Aroma is west coast porter - like Lost Coast 8 Ball or North Coast Old No. 38. Smooth drinking, well buffered. Medium light sweetness, good bittering, nutty tones, western hop twang. Finishes without pain, over-hopping or over-roastiness. Good. armando629 (952), Budapest, Hungary Jul 22, 2009 12 Fl-Oz. bottle, hunted down at Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. The label says 8,7% abv... Dark beer with a delicious, creamy beige head with nice lacing on the glass.Coffee and roasted malt aroma with a fruity and resiny hop character. BeerGuyTWMore (48), USA Jul 21, 2009 Pours a dark brown with little-no light getting through; brown head laces. Malt upfront on the nose with hint of hops, some chocolates and oak aswell. Roasted malt and smoak up frront with chewy chocolatey coffee middle. Finishes with a nice warming brandy alcohol flavor with all flavors lingering. Medium-full body. Added points for the cool hunter thompson artwork. Let this one warm up to you! (definitely a cold weather brew) TeamTrappist (362), jericho, New York, USA Jul 21, 2009 Poured a dark dark brown black with a thin beige head. Nose was malty, with a hint of hops and alcohol. First impression was a big mouthful with a lot of bubble gum. As it warmed the malt and hops and smokey flavor were revealed, with chocolate and coffee notes. Decent depth of flavors, definitely worthy of the imperial label. mpersinger (176), , California, USA Jul 17, 2009 From 7oz bottle to glass: smells like steak sauce, but takes on aroma of aged brandy after ten minutes in glass. Dense brown with an edge of beige head. Sips like fine port. Thick and creamy like mocha gelatto with some oak notes. Just enough hops to balance, and no alcohol warmth. ditmier (1019), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 15, 2009 2007 Bottle - Pours almost black with a cream colored ring of a head...aroma is chocolate malt and roasted grains...flavour is similarly dark cocoa, bitter burnt wood, coffee...finish is sweet malt with a lingering astringent coffee bitterness...not quite sure what a few years in the bottle did for this one, but still pretty fun...
