ljstephenson (111), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Jun 1, 2009 Deep black pour with a thinning brown head, aroma is malty and chocolate, flavor is sweet with roasted toffee, coffee and chocolate, finishes super smooth, slightly hoppy. ChrisThomson (375), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 30, 2009 Amazing beer. I had this head to head with the wild dog, I definitely preferred this one. Pours dark with off white head. Big flavours of dark chocolate, roasted malts yobdoog (1417), Woodridge NY, New York, USA May 28, 2009 Super dark with and off white head. Aroma is roasty, coffee, dark bitter chocolate, and some faint hops and sugary sweetness. Taste is similar and has all the characteristics I enjoy. Very balanced and great for a larger scale Imperial. ajbitt (45), , Indiana, USA May 18, 2009 Just finished a Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout and am struck by how different these beers are (the Darkhorse being significantly better). Aroma on the Gonzo was more pronounced. Smooth, rich poor, light tan head. Low carbonation. Bitter coffee upfront. Smooths then finish is nearly non-existent. Viscosity apparent up front fades to almost nothing, leaving me slightly unsatisfied at not having anything a little meatier to stay with me after each drink. Overall not a bad imperial porter.- bermod (118), Lappeenranta, Finland May 17, 2009 Smooth, syrupy sweet aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and licorice. Something common with Nøgne Ø’s IS. Sweet chocolate, coffee and smooth roasted maltiness in flavor. Dryish and moderately bitter finish. cmonster (73), Portland, Oregon, USA May 15, 2009 12 oz bottle served in a snifter. Dense, oil black in color. Light brown one-finger head. Nose is malty, sweet, and roasty. Upon further review, theres a strange (chocolate) cough drop or soy sauce aroma. Creamy mouthfeel, some carbonation, and not overly weighty. The finish is nice and makes up ground for the off-nose. The hops show up at the end and mingle nicely with the malts. The alcohol is well concealed throughout. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA May 15, 2009 pours pitch black with decent head. aroma is strong coffee, burnt malts, and some alcohol. drinks the same with tons of rich coffee and a nice bitter crisp finish. great porter blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA May 14, 2009 bottle, dark brown pour with good strong tan foam, aroma has some malty cocoa and cardboard, flavor never really gets going, dark fruit and chocolate but not outstanding
