Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Just finished a Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout and am struck by how different these beers are (the Darkhorse being significantly better). Aroma on the Gonzo was more pronounced. Smooth, rich poor, light tan head. Low carbonation. Bitter coffee upfront. Smooths then finish is nearly non-existent. Viscosity apparent up front fades to almost nothing, leaving me slightly unsatisfied at not having anything a little meatier to stay with me after each drink. Overall not a bad imperial porter.-

Smooth, syrupy sweet aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and licorice. Something common with Nøgne Ø’s IS. Sweet chocolate, coffee and smooth roasted maltiness in flavor. Dryish and moderately bitter finish.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter. Dense, oil black in color. Light brown one-finger head. Nose is malty, sweet, and roasty. Upon further review, theres a strange (chocolate) cough drop or soy sauce aroma. Creamy mouthfeel, some carbonation, and not overly weighty. The finish is nice and makes up ground for the off-nose. The hops show up at the end and mingle nicely with the malts. The alcohol is well concealed throughout.

Poured from Bottle into Snifter glass. Pours a deep, thick black with a nice one inch tan head that very slowly dissipates into a fine film around the glass. Very classy looking. The aroma is of bitter chocolate and slight dried fruits and roasted malts. WOW... The flavor on this is packed with striking coffee bitterness, chocolate, licorice, and just a touch of smoke and maybe leather. The alcohol has a lasting warming presence. The mouthfeel is suprising medium-bodied and ends with a semi-dry finish. Classy. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this beer. While there is an obvious presence of alcohol, I would still drink a couple of these through-out an adventurous evening.

Pours a dark black. smell of some coffee and roasted malt. Taste of some chocolate and coffee with a lil hops. Noticed it did get a lot better as it warmed up. Liked this beer and theres a badass skeleton on the label what more could u ask for

[Bottle] Pours dark brown with a nice dark tan head. Aroma is a little muted--mostly mild cocoa and malt. Taste is dark chocolate truffle, anise, deeply roasted malt, a little alcohol and enough hop bitterness to balance it out. Good mouthfeel, very smooth, with a long slightly dry finish that is mostly dark chocolate with a little malt. Aroma could be a little bigger, but overall a very nice beer that is very drinkable.
