Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

9.2% version: Pours a jet black with a low medium head.. . sweet tar and roast blackened marshmallow aromas.. . nose follows to the tongue, very smooth stuff.. . great abv, silky and so mild in the mouth.. . wow, where did the black stuff in my glass go? ... You ain’t so tough now, little nigga. I hate your black bastards, you *stink*! I hate your black skin. I hate your black pants. I hate black pepper. I hate black keys on a piano. I hate my gums, because they’re black. I hate Whoopi Goldberg’s *lips*. I hate the back of Forrest Whittaker’s neck. Huh? Most of all, I hate that black-ass Wesley Snipes...yes imperial porters are awesome...

Pours dark as a mofo with a very thick and strong tan head. Leaves behind good lacing. Smells of coffee and hops. Taste is the shiznit. Not usually a fsn of porters, but this one is exceptional. Not too many flavors going on,. strong coffee from, roasted malt backing, and just a perfect dark chocolate aftertaste.

A bottle tasted at Kaisla. Dark brownish colour. Brown head. Slight chocolate in the nose. Dark chocolate in the taste. Slightly too hoppy.

Minimal head that leaves a solid but thin lacing. Aroma is a roasted malt. Flavor is the coffee/chocolate espresso type. A bit more bitter than sweet which throws the balance off a bit for me, but still tasty. Finish was a dark, malty bitter with alcohol warmth. Good for a cold afternoon.

Bottle. Pours almost black with a small creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit and coffee. Same flavour. Fantastic balance with great bitterness from the hops and roasted finish. A big porter and great example of the style.

12oz bottle purchased at Corral Liquors in Granite City, Il. Pours almost black, with a nice airy beige head. Aroma is a light coffee/toffee/chocolate. The hops come through nicely in the flavor. The bitterness and the alcohol feel just right. I let this get to room temp. and the aroma was increased by about 30% and the flavor increased as well. The aftertaste of alcohol slightly increased as the beer neared room temp. This is one of my favorites!

12 oz bottle. Pours black (not super thick) with small brown head. Lacing is somehwat minimal. Aroma is coffee, chocolate. Flavor is smokey, chocolaty, complex. Nice finish too. As it warms, the alcohol becomes a little more noticeable. How can a brewery like Flying Dog make a beer like this, then continue to make such average beers otherwise?! Anyway, this one is a keeper.

Had this one bottled, thank you Brett! Opaque, dark brown pour with a thick, foamy tan head, nice chocolatey malty nose, intense flavor of bitter herbs, strong coffee, licorice, molasses and plum. Strong finish. This one is a keeper and among the finest imperial stouts I’ve ever had.
