Block (363), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Feb 12, 2009 Black pour with a large brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, alcohol and some hops. Thick mouthfeel with a strong flavor or roasted malts and coffee. Geiserich (1775), Vienna, Austria Feb 12, 2009 Bottled:Nearly black color with a foamy, brown (like coffee) head. First impression, a bombastic hop aroma. Notes of fresh, whole aroma hop umbels. Then dark fruits, roasted malt and smoke. Soft mouthfeel, velvety, full bodied. Raisins and rum plums, malty, intensive roasted malt notes, alcohol. Dark chocolate and coffe beans in the end. More of this stuff, please. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Feb 12, 2009 I have had this on tap and bottled. One of my favorite beers. A huge porter, pours black as night, and a deep brown head. Aroma is nice roasted coffee, chocolate notes, burnt malt. The label is accurate, this has a very complex and deep flavor. Each sip takes you somewhere else on the palate. Traditional coffee, chocolate, sweet malts body of a porter/stout. This is a huge, robust and I think the best, porter on the market. Anker (305), Hillerød, Denmark Feb 11, 2009 On tap. Pours pitch black, with a medium brown head.
Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted coffee and vanilla.
Flavor is a little sour at first, then dark roasted coffee with hints of chocolate and vanilla. It has a pleasant bitter finish.
Palate is similar to a good stout. Overall it’s nice and soft - very well balanced. scottw86 (180), Maryland, USA Feb 10, 2009 Poured very black with a large brown head. Aroma is fantastic, smokey, hoppy, and roasted malts. Spices as well? Taste is a good balance of hops and caramel malts. Brown sugar and a slight alcohol taste present. Slightly creamy, and more medium bodied. Aftertaste is also very long lasting and mainly of roasted malts. The complexity of this brew is really something. Very good! BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 8, 2009 A- Pours a coal black hue with deep rich brown head that starts HUGE and dissipates down to about one finger of cream, sloppy thing lacing on the glass
S- Nose is truly amazing, a surprising amount of hops burst through a foundation of chocolate, coffee, and roasty malts, a touch of smoke and caramel
T- Initial taste is of coffee mocha malts with pine hops, the imperial nature truly shines on in this beer, tons of flavor and balance, other flavors include dark fruit, brown sugar/molasses, and alcohol warming before a bitter hop finish
M- Full-bodied, watery-to-creamy texture, prickly carbonation
D- Another delicious offering from Flying Dog, I had the pleasure of stopping at their tasting room in Denver two weeks ago and want to give props to Stephanie for hooking us up with plenty of tasters, anyway this is a mighty good hop-forward porter that I intend to re-visit many times thefle (111), , New Jersey, USA Feb 8, 2009 blegh. Very meh. For a strong porter I can’t understand for the life of me why it tasted weaker than most other porters. It’s not a bad porter per say, but its really just very underwhelming. avilla (12), , Italy Feb 5, 2009 Updated: Feb 12, 2009Tap @ BQ. Extreme dark black with tan head. Resin to the nose. Roasted malt aroma. Sweet with dry hop finish. Easy to drink despite the high ABV. Great Imperial Porter.
