Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Bottle. Dark black color with huge beige head. Oil texture, creamy foam. Aroma of roasted malt, zest, grapefruits, pines and notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is light roasty, light sweet, zesty and citrusy. Long hoppy kick. Nice balanced beer

Bottle. Pours a clear very dark colour, with massive and lasting brown head. Lots of roasted malt, but also assertive hoppiness, coming through as mostly grassy, zesty. Taste is high in sweetness and bitterness at the same time... the two somehow coexist harmonically, both kicking your ass at the same time. Moderate to light high carbonation helps with the drinkability of this thick bodied beast. Truly an interesting and exquisite beer.

Bottle from Cindys Spirits. Pours out dark brown and oily, small head which dissipates quickly. Right from the bat, this porter gets down to business. Dark, biting roast grain bitterness, slick body, peat, smoke and wood all play here. Very mild warmth from the alcohol, but not over the top. A classic.

0,33l bottle at home shared by Saeglopur, big thanks. BB 23.10.2016. black color, small coffee-colored head. smells of licorice, resin, light exotic fruits, light parfume, light roast. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of licorice, caramel, spices, some resin, bit earthy, . finishes lightly dry with notes of licorice, earthy notes and a light herbal bitterness. great stuff, not overly complex but great balance. smell reminds me more of a black ipa than a simple porter, taste has a very nice balance between roast and hoppy notes. great stuff. good stuff also great that it is very enjoyable below 10%.

355 ml bottle from BeerLovers Vienna, bb 23.10.16.
Almost black body, with a big, dense, creamy, dark beige head.
Arma of cocoa, coffee, caramel, chocolate, surprising amounts of hops, like citrus, orange, some tropical fruits.
Taste follows this, also pretty hoppy, but a bit more in the background.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes roasty, medium dry, medium hoppy, with cocoa, coffee, slight liquorice, citrus.

Very nice. Hoppier than other style examples I’ve had, also resembles a bit a Black IPA. Drinks pretty smooth, alcohol is greatly hidden. Not among my favourite style examples overall, but a unique and enjoyable one nonetheless.

9.2%ABV. Imperial Stout. Poured out black. 40ºSRM. Nose has sweet dates, alcoholic estery sweetness. There are also fig cakes, licorice, dark hot chcolate, coffee aromas. Molasses funk in the nose suggesting a malty sugary sweetness. Mouthfeel is soapy and thick. Not sure if this was because I had it a close to room temperature. Palate has figs, honeyed dates, ripe stone fruit, licorice, grass jelly, Chinese herbal tea, peat smoke, creme brulee. Fig newtons somehow figures into the overall taste experience. Goes on Favorites List!

Bottle into fancy stout glass. Surprisingly hoppy aroma. Slightly smokey, malty. Some chocolate and coffee notes. Smooth. Bitter finish. Solid porter but on the hoppy side. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
