jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Oct 4, 2008 Pours brownish/black with thick tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Taste of berries, hops, and slight roasted malt flavor. One of the more enjoyable porters I have had. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Very good. jeremyd365 (109), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Oct 2, 2008 Yum! This brew oured very dark with little light brown head. It smelled sweet and chocolatey. The flavors of chocolate and coffee are definitely apparent, with he coffee flavor definitely lingering on the palette. It is very drinkable despite its heaviness, with the bitter of hops there but is mostly masked by other flavors. jkaiser (212), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 1, 2008 Loaded for bear. Damn Good. Eighth beer I tried at beerfest. Winners drink this beer. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2008 12oz bottle from ’07, served in a stem glass. Very dark brown body topped by a large creamy brown head. Smells of dusty cocoa, earth, dark chocolate, floral (as someone else put it, for lack of a better term). Big bitter chocolate flavor, licorice, earthy. Lasting hop bitterness. Has a full, rich, creamy mouthfeel. For some reason it reminds me a lot of Bell’s Expedition Stout, just a tad bit lighter in the flavor and body departments. Alcoholic warmth becomes noticeable around mid-glass. Very enjoyable experience. bbrock81 (218), Le Mars, Iowa, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottled. Pours an opaque black with a small tan head. Aroma is startlingly hoppy, giving a bright counterpoint to the heavier roasted and sweet malt aromas. The flavor follows the nose, being bitter, roasty, with typical coffee and chocolate flavors, and thick, sweet malt, and then the hops come up again in the finish, contrasting sharply with what has gone before. The palate is thick and syrupy. Alcohol presence is detectable, in aroma and flavor, but not so strong as to be distracting. Overall this is a very unique and interesting beer, and I enjoyed it a lot. Gary (352), Buckinghamshire, England Sep 26, 2008 Updated: Sep 24, 2009Great to see this in the UK . I had this in a session of several strong American beers so was some what fucked up by the time I sampled this 1. My notes moan that its a bit "overly floral for a dark ale" . The roast and floral end up having a boxing match . Rather than chillin’ in unity. Challenging and interesting beer. rerateWicked good ale..very aromatic ..roasted and chewy..i found a unity between roast and floral .Cool to locate this localy. dirt55 (149), Washington, USA Sep 24, 2008 bottled, poured deep dark brown with nice small/tight brown head, aroma of sweet alcohol/hop with a possible small soap aroma at first??? (clean glass i swear), very full roasted malt flavor with nice touch of sweet alcohol on palate and residual hops, nice drink at room temp on a wet and cold Washington day beergod (97), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 24, 2008 Gonzo pours a nice black color with a nice dark chocolate brown colored head. It smells of a nice nutty coffee. Taste is of dark berries with a roasted chocolate,or just a nice dark chocolate and also very full bodied. I’ve had this barrel aged and i can’t really decide witch one i love better. The truth is that they’re both great!!!! Drink this with mole!!!!
