4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle ("VINTAGE10 HH" from 4/2011 notes) served in a pint glass. ABV listed as 9.2% on bottle
A lovely dark mahogany liquid going into the glass where it appears nearly black and quite opaque. Thick 1-finger head is a nice dark tan and has very retention and lacing.
S - a complex and rich aroma, with markedly more hop than a standard porter, but then this is an Imperial porter. Plenty of caramel and toasted malt, not marred by the burnt notes I too often find (and dislike) in other porters.
T - perhaps even richer than indicated by the aroma, and definitely more bitter. (IBU = 85). Finish is a blend of roasted malt with a moderate bitterness and dark chocolate notes. High (9.2%) ABV, detectable by nose, is fairly well hidden in the taste.
M - Full body; good carbonation, although probably above average for a porter.
O: Brings together the best of a porter with an PA or IPA, and these are surprisingly well integrated.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance - 4/5 - Nice dark brown/black beer with a big mocha head on it, leaves nice lacing.
Aroma - 8/10 - Roasty coffee, espresso, chocolate, oatmeal.
Taste - 9/10 - Chocolate, coffee, espresso, cafe mocha, vanilla, cream, oatmeal. Very wholesome and smooth. Reminds me of Bellís Expedition Stout.
Palate - 4/5 - very nice thick mouthfeel, like a chocolate milkshake, alc is completely covered. Aftertaste is roasty malts, coffee, and milk chocolate.
Overall - 15/20 - Great imperial porter! I think what some other people said about the alcohol taste may be changed due to this being the 2013 vintage. But then again maybe not. Itís a great imperial porter, with no harsh bitter or alcohol flavors whatsoever.

Bottle at home. Very very dark red colour with brown head. Aroma is sweet roasted malts. Taste is deep roasted coffee and malt, sweet hint of dark fruit. Salty and bitter roast. Very unctuous and thick. Lovely actually.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The aroma is of roasted malt, earthly smells, caramel, coffee. It is black with a dark brown head with small amounts of lacing. Rich taste of caramel and earthly tones. The roasted malts give the feel a rich, very smooth experience on the palate.

4.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
resin, caramel, toast, earthy, leaves, coming from a thick creamy head on top of an extremely dark brown body that allows no light through, very bitter, salty. full bodied isnt enough to describe how thick this beer tastes as it goes down! oily creamy, lively, with a long bitter finish, quality stuff! bottle from beers of europe.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle from Glug in the Grainger Market Newcastle. Served in a Hoegaarden snifter. Pitch black body, with a smooth dense tan head. Liquorice aroma. From the first sip, I realised I was on to something quite special. Not uncommon roasted malt porter flavours of liquorice and bitter chocolate, coffee and farmyard, but the exceptional depth of flavour and a rich, silky smooth texture mark this one out. Then, there is an astringent hop finish which adds piquancy to the whole experience. Easily the best beer Iíve had for a long while.

Pure luxury in a glass! Always loved the liquorice hit of a porter, then flying dog build it up with a sharp hop finish. Excellent beer.

Nitro tap. Beautiful big tan head with a black body. Taste is a little too hoppy for me for a porter. Almost like a black creamy IPA. This is an IPA lovers porter.
