Shy light brown head. Hop and dark grain smell. The flavour is difficult to describe but there is something very lively and good in it. Finishes hoppy and with clear taste of roasted malts. Nice one and very balanced - so far the first brew I really enjoyed from Flying Dog (looking forward to try the barrel aged version!)

Oct 5, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of toasted, molasses and dark chocolate, resin and cooked citrus for the hops, leather and earth for the yeast and background notes of prune, tar, licorice, alcohol (almost has an espresso with anisette essence to it). Head is creamy, brown, with a little lacing and it’s mostly lasting. Color is just about black. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet and acidic. Palate is medium to full, creamy, and has a soft carbonation. This Imperial Porter has the most fitting aromas and flavors for the style, and it’s all in perfect balance.

Oct 3, 2009 Poured from 12 oz, dark, dark brown with medium tan head that quickly faded. Nose was all chocolate, smooth and sweet. The taste was a nice blend of malt, hops and chocolate, very smooth and well balanced. Not bad for a gold medal winner.....

Sep 29, 2009 Dark and full bodied with Medium tan head...sweet chocolate and roasted malt aroma and flavor... coffee and hops create a bitter aftertaste... great porter, one of my favorites

Sep 28, 2009 it has a dark frothy head that is just awsome to look at. you can smell chocolate and sugar with the roasted malts in it. there is a hoppy tatse to it in the finish but mostly malty and full bodied trough the palate. aftertaste is nice and plesent. nice porter.

Sep 27, 2009 Deep dark, dark brown body with frothy, dark khaki head with nice lace. Aroma is coffee with sweetness underneath. Sweet dark chocolate taste that attacked by hoppy bitterness which dives headfirst into an aftertaste of chocolate covered cherries. The palate is the best part of this beer - a bubbly swamp on the tongue, thick and even. My first rating on this website, but a great find.

Sep 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours jet black with great tan head and plenty of lacing. Aroma is amazing with choclate, toffee, dark fruit and something I just couldnt place. Palate is more if the same with choclate toffee and fruit. Some hop bitterness though extremely well balanced. Great beer. Probably my favorite from these guys
