COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

On tap (Holyrood 9A in Edinburgh). Black with a thin light brown head. Medium body and carbonation. Aroma is roasted malt and some fruits. Flavor is sweet, hoppy, roasted malt and coffee. Bitter aftertaste. Tastes like a porter should taste (but not really my style).

Hallelujah! This thing is reminiscent of Old Rasputin. Light chocolate, boysenberry and lavender, with a subtle, soft cookie dough finish. What’s Hunter S. talking about? If it wasn’t weird enough, why write about it? OK! Let’s Party!!! Oh, and as with many big porters and stouts, it peaks closer to room temp.

Dermi (274) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 27, 2012
355 ml, bottled. Pours black with a decent mocha head. Aroma: Hops, berries, roasted malt, alcohol (not bothering) and caramel. Taste: Quite sweet, adequate roasty and hoppy bitterness. Roasted flavours, coffee and hints of chocolate. Earthy tones, root cellar. Palate: Over medium bodied, lovely smoothness, oily. Not particularly complex, but yet very interesting and satisfying.

Very dark oak brown. The smell is sweet dark chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is burnt malt bitterness giving way to sweet dark fruit. Hops are strong and citrusy coming in at the end. Full bodied.

This is exactly what beer should be like. It’s a little hoppy for a porter, but is nice, dark, and thick. It’s more of a dessert than a complement to a meal. Me gusta.
