Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

# 105 Pours a deep brown, almost black with a tiny and quickly fading dark brown head. Nose is coffee, roasted malts, raisins with hints of alcohol A light but very balanced experience with a complex taste-symphony in almost perfect harmony. I taste coffee and dark chockolate, brown burned sugar with smoked and sweet hints. The finish is a bitter hoppy journey. The palate is smooth and creamy without being too much.

Poured a very dark brown with a thin head. Aroma was very complex with the aroma of dark fruits, brown sugar, chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. The taste was just the same, with a bitter and sweet finish. It went down really smooth even with a rather high alcohol content.

Bottle, 2007 vintage. Aroma of alcohol soaked fruits, roast, chocolate, coffee, all the stuff you’d want going on in a beer of this nature with great balance between all of it. Flavor remains the same with a fairly high alcohol presence, but there’s so much other richness that it definitely works. Even a touch of bitterness finds its way through as a further balancing act among all the sweet malt, chocolate, coffee, fruits, alcohol, what have you. Very complex. Rich, creamy mouthfeel that never gets heavy or sticky. This stuff is downright excellent.

(USA) Pours a sweet black color with a large tan head. The aroma is very malty with chocolate, coffee, and a hint of molasses. The taste is kind of bitter with some roasted malts, dark fruits, and some hops. The mouthfeel does have a bite to it, so get ready !!!! Overall, I think this is a very good imperial porter.

Bottle. Pours black brown, fluffy tan head. Aroma is chewy with hints of anise and rum. Flavor is chewy with pine, roasted nuts, chocolate, molasses, anise, and a slight port/rum burn that you can feel in your chest.. This has a nice bitterness to it but I feel that the alcohol is not blended enough. I guess I shouldn’t complain, but I’m going to anyway.

Bottle, 2007. Pours black with a pretty thick dark tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, rich sweet malt, chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor of rich sweet malt, slight roasted malt, dark fruits, and slight citrusy hops. Quite sweet. Very good beer! I wonder if it would be better fresh where you can really get a nice interplay betweeen the sweet malt and citrusy hops? Either way, this is a winner.
