Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

(USA) Pours a sweet black color with a large tan head. The aroma is very malty with chocolate, coffee, and a hint of molasses. The taste is kind of bitter with some roasted malts, dark fruits, and some hops. The mouthfeel does have a bite to it, so get ready !!!! Overall, I think this is a very good imperial porter.

Bottle. Pours black brown, fluffy tan head. Aroma is chewy with hints of anise and rum. Flavor is chewy with pine, roasted nuts, chocolate, molasses, anise, and a slight port/rum burn that you can feel in your chest.. This has a nice bitterness to it but I feel that the alcohol is not blended enough. I guess I shouldn’t complain, but I’m going to anyway.

Bottle, 2007. Pours black with a pretty thick dark tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, rich sweet malt, chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor of rich sweet malt, slight roasted malt, dark fruits, and slight citrusy hops. Quite sweet. Very good beer! I wonder if it would be better fresh where you can really get a nice interplay betweeen the sweet malt and citrusy hops? Either way, this is a winner.

Bottle. Black with a biege head. Aromas are earthy coffee with herbal notes and liquorice. Very, very floral with smoky notes and peppery pine. Some chocolate malts. Flavours are roast malts with peppery, bitter pine. Woody with lavender. Some winter fruit. Good.

Bottle at home. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of bitter roasted coffee, musty earthy yeast, molasses. Flavour is bitter coffee and hops, raisins, wood. Earthy flavours are a bit too apparent in this brew.

poured dark with a light brown head that didn’t last very long. Aroma was very nice. Taste is bitter (but a good bitter) and has a nice aftertaste that stayed with me. I would drink this again for sure.
