MacAnUltaigh (45), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 31, 2008 Chocolate head with tar body. Literally a porter with more booze and lots of dry hopping. This may sound like a slam on the Gonz, but make no mistake, this brew is a tasy one. Sticky with malt and super hoppy but nice ’n’ bready as a porter should be. If I come across the barrel aged twin I’ll double the dose for sure. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 31, 2008 draft @ uber - long wanted to try this but still sitting on a few bottles at home; on this night has the tough act of follow a few big beers; jet black with thin cream colored head; texture leaves much to be desired; very roasty with mild coffee notes; a little smoke too; flavor mix comes off a little sour, sweet and dry; not that impressed and will need to revisit at some point hayduke (1619), Eureka, California, USA Jul 30, 2008 Updated: Dec 24, 2008From a 12 oz bottle this poured a rich black with foam tan head and good lacing. Nose of roasted malts and chocolate. Good mouthfeel which was medium but very smooth. Flavor of bitter chocolate and coffee. Nice bitter finish. Very easy to drink. I liked this one a lot. BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2008 This is a great porter. Good lacing and dark appearance. Chocolate and mocha flavors with mild fruitiness. Mouthfeel is decent but not a strong point but overall one of the best porters I’ve. Doesn’t top Olfabrikken but it’s in that realm. Would like to try again. SkyinBrian (429), Collinsville, Illinois, USA Jul 29, 2008 aroma is of dark fruit with a bit of alcohol. taste is more booze with loads of chocolate, some vanilla, and just a slight hint of roast as this warms, this blends into almos a bourbon character. not bad at all. rayOfBeer (316), El Cerrito, California, USA Jul 29, 2008 Poured from bottle an opaque dark brown/black with a very large frothy mocha foam that fades slowly leaving nice lacing rings. Aroma is bitter chocolaty with a sweet-tart black cherry and a touch of dusty yeast. Flavor is bitter chocolate, a little coffee, lightly charred grain with a very soft bittering and some tart black plum with lightly sweetened syrup. The palate is nice, having an initial sweetness moving into a soft powdery bitterness and a mild tartness. Not a huge malty mouthfull but well balanced. I found the alcohol to be hardly noticible. Overall, a winner. I would love to drink more. Piggy (27), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottole. chocolate almost black with a thin off white almost brown head. Aroma very poweful chocolate with a mix of coffee lots a alcohol. Taste strong alcohol coffee mix with some smokeness add to it! Very good! TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 21, 2008 Fresh from the brewery in Frederick MD- Poured a black coffee with nice foam ruddy tan head & lacing. Mild Coffee, chocolate, roasted aroma quality with this carrying into the pallet. It has some mellow bitterness which evens it out, giving it a pleasant taste.
The malt fills the pallet, relaxing. Picked up a growler of this even though I live about an hour and forty five away from the brewery!
