lucke13 (90), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Jun 6, 2008 Pours DARK black, like oil, with the richest brown head I’ve ever seen. Smells hoppier than I would expect for a porter, with coffee and chocolate coming through only lightly. Very thick body, again, almost like oil. Taste is exactly what the nose implies. I wouldn’t have thought there was this much alcohol in this if I hadn’t read the bottle. Could use a little more carbonation. Otherwise a very good beer. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Jun 4, 2008 Updated: Jun 10, 2008So one night I’m sitting in my dorm room, aight, and I hear someone yell that HST killed himself. I call my Dadbra, and he says, "It’s about time." I’ve been depressed since February 05, then I tried this brew. Definitely sexy, definitely hides the alcohol, and definitely a tribute to the greatest journalist I’ve ever read. I’m sure HSTbra rests in peace knowing this beer is out there. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jun 4, 2008 Nice thick dark pour with fairly minimal head. Aroma is a bit of roasted malt with lots of piney hops. Flavor is quite delicious- nice balance of thick malt and lots of hops. This definitely doesn’t fit the typical porter mold, but I enjoyed it just the same. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Jun 4, 2008 Pours an extremely dark black color with a short-lived tan, bubbly head. Aroma is of dark roasted/burnt malts, some coffee, a bit of hoppy bitterness. Flavors were very rich and sweet with a lot of dark-roasted/burnt/smoky malts, a load of bitterness, espresso, some honey-like sweetness and alcohol. Pretty heavy beer, took me quite awhile to drink... very nice stuff, i’ll definitely keep this one in the repertoire. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 4, 2008 Black with thick tan head. Smell is hops, malts, caramel, and alcohol. Taste is raisans, alcohol, fruits, and malts. Also coffee, and chocolate. Pretty good. Bill86 (43), Tennessee, USA Jun 4, 2008 They had it at the liquor store for 3 bucks a bottle, MUCH MUCH better then the garde, that one wasn’t near as good. Smells really good, goes down a bit bitter but overall has a decent amount of flavor. Not a bad way to spend 3 bucks. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Jun 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours very dark, almost black, but still brown with a medium brown head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty with some hoppiness. Flavor is lightly sweet and chocolate, maybe a hint of anise, roasty, with some light grapefruit. Creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. hogan873 (317), Joliet, Illinois, USA Jun 2, 2008 Very impressive! Black as a cup of Starbucks coffee with a thick tan head. The head leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Wonderful aroma of coffee, chocolate, and malt. Sweet up front with chocolate and coffee evident. Finishes slightly bitter with some hops and pine. Only a slight alcohol aftertaste. An incredibly good and easy drinking beer considering the alcohol content. Now I have to go watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas again.
