Nose was all chocolate, smooth and sweet. The taste was a nice blend of malt, hops and chocolate, very smooth and well balanced. Not bad for a gold medal winner..... | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Deep dark, dark brown body with frothy, dark khaki head with nice lace. Aroma is coffee with sweetness underneath. Sweet dark chocolate taste that attacked by hoppy bitterness which dives headfirst into an aftertaste of chocolate covered cherries. The palate is the best part of this beer - a bubbly swamp on the tongue, thick and even. My first rating on this website, but a great find. bluebetty (105), Australia
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours jet black with great tan head and plenty of lacing. Aroma is amazing with choclate, toffee, dark fruit and something I just couldnt place. Palate is more if the same with choclate toffee and fruit. Some hop bitterness though extremely well balanced. Great beer. Probably my favorite from these guys Gpnterojd (163), Orangeville, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 23, 2009 Aroma of pears, cherries, grapefruit, chocolate and coffee. Almost opaque, lightbulbs just manage to poke through its murky complexion. Small dirty slush head. Ampules of flavour - smoke, bologne, grapefruit, dark chocolate, lemon, apricot. Fantastic material for the tongue to dig through.
Dry on the palate. Leaves a large and warm imprint on the mouth and throat. Damn good. Dredd (488), Ormond, Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 23, 2009 Magnificent, aroma of raisins, coffee, black appearence with thin tan head.
Flavour is a rich mix of dried fruits, roast malts and a balancing bitterness. EFC1878 (292), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Bottle from Tesco. Black as they come with a thick, frothy beige head. Muscovado sweetness, chocolate and a strong coffee note amongst the aromas with a little alcohol. Initially has the typical porter sweetness but there’s a decent hoppiness complemented by roast malt bitterness as a counterbalance with some warming alcohol. Nicely rounded long dry finish and a very smooth palate. Very, very good. One for the autumnal chill.
