Aroma is of dark roasted/burnt malts, some coffee, a bit of hoppy bitterness. Flavors were very rich and sweet with a lot of dark-roasted/burnt/smoky malts, a load of bitterness, espresso, some honey-like sweetness and alcohol. Pretty heavy beer, took me quite awhile to drink... very nice stuff, i’ll definitely keep this one in the repertoire. travita (1887), Frisco, Texas, USA

Smells really good, goes down a bit bitter but overall has a decent amount of flavor. Not a bad way to spend 3 bucks. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours very dark, almost black, but still brown with a medium brown head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty with some hoppiness. Flavor is lightly sweet and chocolate, maybe a hint of anise, roasty, with some light grapefruit. Creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. hogan873 (324), Joliet, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 2, 2008 Very impressive! Black as a cup of Starbucks coffee with a thick tan head. The head leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Wonderful aroma of coffee, chocolate, and malt. Sweet up front with chocolate and coffee evident. Finishes slightly bitter with some hops and pine. Only a slight alcohol aftertaste. An incredibly good and easy drinking beer considering the alcohol content. Now I have to go watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas again. greenleaf (90), Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2008 Bottle. Black, thick pour with a hot-chocolate head. Smells like bacon with some dark berry, toffee, and espresso. Tastes like a forest fire that was extinguished with coffee. The wonderful hoppy smokiness lingers forever. There are secondary notes of dark citrus. This reminds me of the inside of a humidor – citrus and fine tobacco. An interesting and rather fantastic beer.
