Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

bottle, 2 years old: tons of yeast sediment left behind in the bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown with a light brown not quite tan head that starts out about on finger and quikly disapates to a small layer on the surface. laces the whole way down. The aroma is strong of licorice with plenty of weet malt and dark fruits mixed into the surprisingly subtle roastyness. FULL bodies brew that leaves a chewy finish. A lot of sweet malt on the palate, almost fruity. The sweet malt is followed by that licorice in the aroma mixed with planety of roasted malt and a little chocolate. The finish warms the throat ever so slightly, bbut leaves a not so pleasent salty roasty coating to the mouth.

Pours dark, dark brow, with a dark than head than diminishes to a ring quickly. Big hop aroma with notes of coffee, licorice, and chocolate. Taste has some complexity with sweet and earthy hops up front and bitterness on the back. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Coffee aroma and flavor. Very bitter taste that lingers. I actually prefer the other Flying Dogs better. Plus they are cheaper. I couldn’t finish my second one. THe bitterness was too much.

Bottle. Pours very dark almost black with a tan head. Smells of Coffee and chocolate which plays well with suttle hop flavor. A very good imperial.

Nice thick head "cascades’ down the glass. Chocolate and malt thickness. coffee undertones. Medium hops clears the palate. Lacks the raisin and date sweetness that overplays many brews this strong. This is the fourth or fifth time I have had this beer. I like it more and more. Subtle strength.

Pours a deep black with a tan head, some nice lacing. Aroma is roasty with coffee, chocolate, and some some malt. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, smoke, black berries, roasted malt, and hops, with an alcohol kick, Mouthfeel is thick and luscious. A very complex beer from flying dog, I’m impressed.

12 oz. bottle. Pours opaque black with a sizable head. Aroma is roasted coffee and sweet and malty, plus some alcohol aroma. Taste is some roasted coffee, nuts, and a bit of chocolate and alcohol. Pretty good, but it just feels like it needs to be a little stronger with respect to the aroma and taste.

Pours balck as night with nice billowing tan head which fades to some nice sticky lacing. Nose is potent and unusual. Chocolate and tart berries, some roasty coffee notes, some spice from the alcohol which burns the nose just a touch... in that oh so good way. Flavor is chocolate and coffee with big hop presence. Very roasty with a mild sweetness to balance out the heavy hand of the hops. The bitterness is way up there, but is well balanced by the other characteristics. There is a nice fruity tartness that rolls alongside the bitter coffee//chocolate notes very well. Ends with a good dose of hop bitterness. The complex flavors hang around on the palate quite a while. Nice lucious thick body with a touch of tingly carbonation. I absolutely love this beer.
