naivepegasus (183), USA May 1, 2008 Pours pitch black with a finger of brown head. Really strong odor, you can smell it from the bottle. Scent of roasted chocolate malts. Very interesting taste, some chocolate at the beginning, with some sweetness turning into a strong bitterness and a taste of burnt toast. This is very good- definitely the best I’ve had from flying dog. punkrkr27 (606), Berkley, Michigan, USA Apr 30, 2008 Black pour with a big frothy tan head and good lacing. Aroma is very roasty and boozy with notes of coffee, cocoa, and a slight vinous quality. Lots of roasted malt and dark chocolate flavor with some vinous notes, and a bitter finish. Creamy full body. As I recall, this was an excellent porter with rich flavors of chocolate and malt. Great job Flying Dog! This is what a porter should be. gbdub (73), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Apr 27, 2008 Pours a dark, syrupy-looking red-black with a medium brown head that leaves thick lacing. Aroma is strong roasty coffee malt, with some chocolate, hops, and a hint of fruit. Coffee and chocolate flavor, lightly sweet but with some good hoppy bitterness. Leaves a dense roasted, smoky aftertaste. Full mouthfeel. Tasty. EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark Apr 27, 2008 Bottle. Black colour with large creamy light brown fully lasting head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Sweet bitter flavor. Creamy palate. ldmp365 (6), USA does not count Apr 26, 2008 Is very dark. Tan, decent-sized thick head. Smells like hops first and a little bit of malt and something else... chocolate? Thick. Slightly bitter aftertaste donteatpoop (124), Youngstown, Ohio, USA Apr 25, 2008 Poursa a dark brown with a light brown head and a decent lacing on the glass.
Smells of roasted malts, coffee, hops, and hint of something light and fruity... I can’t quite place what specifically is giving off the fruit-vibes.
Hops and toasted malts hit the tongue with an underlying fruit and hints of chocolate(?).
A nice full bodied porter that is well balanced and has a mild aftertaste.
Definately drinkable, though maybe not something I’d go out of my way to get ahold of.
Serving type: on-tap popkow (107), New York, New York, USA Apr 25, 2008 A medium size head lays a dark chocolate brown base. Releases a alcohol aroma and a tart bit of maltyness. True to its name imperial porter as it marches in the industrial revolution.
