Aroma initially is of alcohol and oak. Heavily roasted malts, nutty and dark chocolate characteristics. Very satisfying brew. cheeta (858), Langå, Denmark Apr 24, 2008 Aroma, dark chocolate. Huge, frothy, light brown head. Excellent lacing. Fully lasting longevity. Black body. Heavy bitter flavor with smoked notes. Medium palate. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 23, 2008 A pretty good beer from a brewery that is hit or miss. This beer is rich oak with a quickly rising cocoa head. Flavor is dominated by chocolate, smoke, and firewood. Sticky not in its thickness but rather in its ability to linger on the palate. Nicely done. MtStateBeer (74), Hurricane, West Virginia, USA Apr 20, 2008 Updated: Aug 27, 200812 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown/black. Smells sweet and malty, a bit of hops. Good long-lasting heavy sweet flavor. You can definitely taste roasted malts, chocolate, and some coffee. unrulythings (73), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 19, 2008 pours a deep brown with a thick tan head. aroma is full of chocolate and heavy sweet aroma. a bit of hops present in aroma. flavor is intense rounding out with roasted malt and coffee. a seriously good brew. dmtroyer (407), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2008 12oz. Oh, BABY! This beer has class. Essentially a gourmet dessert in a bottle. First, we start with the pour: pretty much black with a dense tan head and bubbles racing up the sides. Next, we sniff: I’m envisioning a three-chocolate layered cake with heavy cream whipped icing. The flavor profile is phenomenal, some serious sweetness with chocolate again, lemon, spearmint, ginger and earl grey tea to boot. Mouthfeel is where this really shines: creamy, not too viscous and not too thin, palate coating with a pang of bitterness and acidity on the finish. About as distinguishably complex as it gets: a close to perfect beer. DECADENT. WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Apr 18, 2008 12 oz. bottle, 2007 vintage. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a thin tan head. Nice smoky aroma, with chocolate and malt. Thick smooth drink with chocolate, toffee and some coffee flavors. Roasted malt in the aftertaste. Decent, but nothing particularly fascinating.
