General66 (167), Streator, Illinois, USA Mar 30, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Poured a deep black color that was unlike any porter I have ever seen. It had a small brown head that dissapated quickly. The aroma consisted of a wonderful mix of chocolate, light coffee, and malts. The taste was a lot of roasted malts with chocolate hints. The bitter taste lingered in the back of my mouth for a while. It was very pleasant. I was definitely not expecting this porter to be so good... I would definitely try this one again! JoeNovice (11), USA Mar 30, 2008 One of the best porters I’ve ever had. Complex, heavy but smooth... Well worth the few dollars I paid. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 29, 2008 Almost opaque black, small brown head that vanishes quickly. Nose of roasted malts and chocolate. Delightful taste of roasted malts, sweet chocolate, and more chocolate. Alcohol well hidden, a plus. Good silky mouthfeel. But really, although delightful, this is a pretty one dimensional beer ... a sweet pop of alcoholic chocolate. garza (131), Caracas, Venezuela Mar 29, 2008 Very good beer for those who love heavy ones with lots of flavor. This one has a very good and sweet aroma. In the tase first is a bit sweet then it turns into bitter but not too much. Looks like oil but taste like glory. Strong in alcohol, drink carefully. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Mar 29, 2008 Updated: Oct 12, 2008when i bought this i thought it was a porter when i drank this i thought it was a stoudt but when i went to rate it i saw it was american strong ale, hmmm poured black with thick creamey head that lasted, lots of lacing smelt like coffee, licorice, and roasted malts.taste of malts, hops and alcohol ,pretty strong brew jjuf1853 (467), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Mar 28, 2008 Bottle pours a rich, robust dark brown with just a trace of tan head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar, chocolate, roasted malts, grape, licorice, and cinnamon. Flavor is smokey, robust, roasted, chocolate, with a slightly hoppy finish. Very interesting and good! smith4498 (825), Miami, Florida, USA Mar 27, 2008 Vintage 2005. Pours black with big thick brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, figs and soy sauce. Flavor of roasted malts and chocolate. Very smooth. Full body with minimal carbonation and slick, creamy mouthfeel. A couple years of aging has reallly mellowed this out. There is no taste of alcohol at all. This was much better than the fresh one I has recently. I need to cellar a couple more bottles.
