Norton (294), The Fan, Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 23, 2008 Bottle. Essentially black with a light orange head that does not linger very long. Peppy. Best aspect is toasty flavor. Enjoyable and not at all weighty. I had 4 of these and was ready to rock. oakbluff (298), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Mar 22, 2008 Extremely black pour with half a finger or tan head that comes and goes quickly. Nose- dark toast with a slightly sour licorce nose and a trace of C type hops. Taste- cola like, medium body with an artificial chocolate type flavour. Dark fruits appear towards the finish along with a good hop punch Nice beer with some odd flavours that pop up. davidoc (113), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 22, 2008 Poured opaque dark brown with a moderate head. Malty aroma with a tangy taste and a chocolate finish. hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 21, 2008 It poured pretty much opaque with a nice creamy tan head. It had an oaky, dark aroma with plenty of chocolates. Really tasty. The flavor’s a bit char like with plenty of coffee and chocolates with a slight hint of hop character. It does fall short and sometimes comes off tasting mediciney, but ever so slightly and doesn’t really detract. Nice sweet finish. A very nice beer. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Mar 18, 2008 Updated: Mar 20, 2008Bottle. Pours almost black with a beautiful brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, some fruit, floral hops and chocolate. Medium/full body. Flavor has roasted malt, some sweetness, coffee beans, and hops. Very nice. Very well balanced. bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA Mar 16, 2008 Black color, creamy head. Nice aroma, hoppy, with some roasted malt. Medium body structure, witha strong flavor of dark chocolate, rising dark malt to the end, and luckily good hop, and a light fruity freshness. Very good.
Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Mar 15, 2008 Pours a dark viscous brown with a thick brown head. Aroma is coffee and hops. There is a good initial coffee flavor that becomes very sweet. Then comes the hops and a slight bitterness. Aftertaste is coffee. A nice porter. Aquilo (249), California, USA Mar 15, 2008 This is the kind of beer that I love. Pours inky black with a frothy chocolate colored head. The head is not very thick, but it sure is pretty while it lasts! Roasted malt scent with some floral notes. Goes down very smooth and wet. Tastes of espresso, and perhaps a bit of chocolate. The flavor of hops lingers on the palate, but it is not unpleasant.
