4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip.
While pouring Gonzo out of the bottle slowly, it had a nearly black color with a burst of cranberry. In the glass, the cranberry is constrained to just the edges of the glass. A tightly wound, fluffy mocha head caps the top of the beer and leaves a web of sticky lace down the glass.
The aroma is smooth and inviting. Dark roasted malts have a bit of espresso and a bit more smokey aroma. There is a bit of sticky pine in the background as well.
Each sip has a carefully crafted flavor. There are dark roasted malts, a bit of chocolate, espresso, a touch of vanilla, and a touch of tobacco and smoke that grows from a slight presence up front to a full but not overwhelming presence at the end. The finish cleans up nicely with a slight pine hoppy bitterness.
Flying Dog really nails the mouthfeel on this imperial porter. Although not quite as thick as an imperial stout, it is easy to notice the thick, luxurious body that holds the 9.2% alcohol well. The texture is slightly sticky. A soft, creamy carbonation has just a bit of a crispness to it that washes the flavor from my taste buds.
Overall I am definitely impressed with this beer. Deep, dark, complex, with a subtle flavor that crescendos near the end of the sip and delivers just a touch of alcohol bite. Sign me up for more.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottle): Pours black with a beautiful mocha head. Aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, wood, fruit. Flavour is surprisingly hoppy, a mix of light citrus/grassy hop flavours and some dark fruits hit you first with a nice bitterness. They then fade into the background whilst some roasted malt, burnt wood and coffee lead into a bitter dark chocolate finish. Not a single hint of alcohol which at 9.2% is some great work. Very impressed!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice dark on black ale with a couple fingers of light mocha foam and a good velvety texture. Nice oaty flavor, good dry cocoa and toast flavors. Nice flavor is slightly bitter and charred flavors hide in this alongside coffee. A bit empty bodied with higher carb, which is sharp and a dry finish. This is s a decent beer, but nothing particularly special – can’t see specifically seeking this out.

roasted almond aroma..poured almost jet black with 2 finger head into pint glass..and was surprised by hoppiness of it..expected more malt from a porter but was nice change..and for 9.2% ABV..went down real easy..alcohol well hidden.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Amazing head, one of the best I’ve ever seen. Very distinct chocolate flavor, then great bitterness. Pitch black. Oily feel. Robust and full. World class.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, pretty much black, with a dark, wooden tinge. A blanket of latte-colored foam covers the liquid. Roast is quite a bit of roast and salty liquorice. Taste is a lot of roast and coffee, some salty liquorice. Grapefruit on the finish. Good, but nothing surprising.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours deep black, tan head which lasts which is a bonus. The aroma is a bit disarming there?s chocolate coffee but also fruits - cherries, plums. Flavour is burnt coffee, bitter chocolate 80% cacao. It?s strong bitterness leaves a long lasting dry mouth feel. This has a high abv but it is managed well and the alcohol is hidden behind a body that is not overly heavy. This has a lot of complexity and is a very good beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lukt: Rosin, brent kaffe, lakris, sjokolade, røstet malt.

couleur noire intense, mousse fine.
