Hey Idunno, welcome back! Very impressive beer. Nose full of malt, hops, smoke, dark chocolate, and cedar. Malty sweet palate with notes of dark chocolate, licorice, hops, and Sumatran coffee. Jet black with a toffee colored head.

12 US fl.oz bottle poured into a small snifter...
Dark, opaque brown body with a bubbly brown head. Some lacing and decent head retention.
The nose is full of over-roasted malts, with hints of bitter chocolate. At the same time, there is a very pronounced Cascade hop aroma, with piny notes.
This beer first tastes like over-roasted coffee beans or burnt toast, with some sweetness to it. Then you get a good hop bite, with resinous and floral notes. The finish is definitely bitter, as a result of both the roasted malts and the dry-hopping. I liked that unusual hoppiness in it a lot.
Medium-bodied and quite highly carbonated. No booziness at first, but after a few moments it starts to show, only getting stronger as you drink it.
Overall this is good for what it is. Itís not a hassle to drink, and it is also an enjoyable beer overall. I do prefer the traditional European Baltic porters, though...

Dark brown oily head atop an abyss of inky darkness. You can almost smell tomorrowís hangover, but the chocolate malts overpower that. Full bodied and very malty, yet not sweet. Nice crisp finish leads to a roasty aftertaste.
And, damn...that is a great label. And the cause is good too ^.^

This beer has an intense blackish brown color. A nice one finger tan head fades to leave some webbed lacing. Aroma is chocolate, toasty malt and grassy hops. Taste has some chocolate malt and coffee with a subtle sweetness and big bitter finish. A great beer. Once again, Flying Dog comes through.

From the bottle. Pours dark opaque, tan head gone fast. Roasty aromas, hints of coffee and liquorice. Very big flavours, slightly acidic with distinct liquorice flavour. Something fruity, sort of prune-like in there as well. Dry finish, which lasts. Canít argue with this, much the best thing Iíve had from Flying Dog.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours like 10W30 with a small light brown head with excellent lacing. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted coffee, molasses, and chocolate. The Flavor is sweet and smoky with notes of coffee, molasses, and dark fruits. The texture is creamy. It’s an excellent beer...If Hunter Thompson hadn’t blown his brains out while tripping on acid, I’d congratulate him.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: Complex aroma of roasted malt, citrusy hop, caramal, and a hint of sherry.
Appearance: Jet black. Looks like a stout.
Flavor: Delicious roasted and caramelly malt notes, and an excellent fruity hop flavor. Some alcohol notes, but not harsh or astringent.
Palate: Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a little alcohol bite, but adds character rather than detracting.
Overall: Excellent, tasty, complex beer.

The ravens-steelers game is making me, as a browns fan, extremely sad and jealous, so Iím having this to console myself. Pours black with dark, dark brown visible around the edges. Minimal tan head generated, and it was gone just as fast as it had appeared. Nose is not too strong, with a slight coffee/chocolate and malt to go with a faint booze smell. Taste thankfully is much better, with very nice coffee and faint chocolate making this a nice porter, and the brief hop taste in the middle making it stand out. Bit of an alcohol warmth at the end, but nothing special. No flavors are too strong, making this beer kinda indecisive but good at the same time. Carbonation is stronger than expected, and quite nice. Drinkability is good for the 9.2% abv.
