3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer freaks me out. Pours a dark black motor oil color with a thin caramel head. So I was expecting to take a good whiff and catch some coffee and chocolate, but that is not what came. I got smacked in the face with a bag full of hops! Subtle aromas of coffee and chocolate are present but the hops are really in yout face. Tastes like a bizarre IPA/Porter. Malty chocolateness to start and then a pounding from the hops. I like this beer but its definitely an acquired taste and tough to drink more than 1.

Wow. I opened this thing up and when I started poring I could not believe my eyes. This stuff makes Guinness look like a light beer. The aroma was very pleasing. I usually find Flying Dog to be a little too bitter but this is a very well balanced brew. Highly recommended for porter or stout fans and hop heads alike!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours out a deep black-tan with a mild creamy tan head with moderate lacing. Nose is very malty with elements of chocolate, coffee and surprisingly grape. Taste is thick bodied, creamy and malty with a fruity grape character that cuts through it lifting it up into a very drinkable beer. Very smooth going down with a fruity palate. Layers of complexity that marry very well.

A thick black elixir for all that ails you. It’s like they took two porters and crammed them into one 12 oz bottle. Flavor out the a@@. Loved it.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2009 Black as death with a tan head. Smells thickly of roasted malts and hops with a hint of alcohol presence; coffee, vanilla, and chocolate notes are there. This one looks, smells, and feels like a stout. This one tastes sweet, fragrant, and rich with flavors of toffee, dark chocolate, black licorice, and a large amount of hops for that porter spice. Has a silky mouthfeel. Is very smooth and mellow while cold but as it warms the alcohol comes through alongside some spicy notes; complex and dangerously drinkable. This is my kind of beer!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours DARK black, like oil, with the richest brown head I’ve ever seen. Smells hoppier than I would expect for a porter, with coffee and chocolate coming through only lightly. Very thick body, again, almost like oil. Taste is exactly what the nose implies. I wouldn’t have thought there was this much alcohol in this if I hadn’t read the bottle. Could use a little more carbonation. Otherwise a very good beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Poured black with a small, mostly lasting light brown head. Aroma of strawberry preserves, espresso, bandaid. As the glass warmed, raspberry espresso truffles, sweet port. Heavily sweet in the beginning, medium bitterness of coffee in the middle, long sweet coffee and fruity finish. Sweet chocolate flavors and noticeabel alcohol. Syrupy and sticky mouthfeel.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle 12 oz. Pours a dark and deep brown with a light brown head. Nose is chocolate and nutty. Flavor is explosive with creamy chocolate goodness, with a alchol finish that is semi-dry. The beer is full of flavor and very well balanced.
