Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Poured opaque dark brown with a moderate head. Malty aroma with a tangy taste and a chocolate finish.

This beer was rich in dark porter goodness. This beer is certainly not for those who don’t like dark beer. Thick black pour almost like an oil coming from a glass. Tan head fills the glass with a chocolate, roast coffee scent. Amazing to the nose. Try this beer.

Pours black with a thick brown/tan head. Aroma is pure hops. Creamy malt flavor backed up by the bitterness of the hops and the roasted malt. Pleasant dry finish. Very complex and unique. Not bad!

Dark color with a small beige head. Roasted malts, chocolate, anis and herb dominate the aroma. Flavour is lots of chocolate, coffee and herbs. Quite bitter. Full mouthfeel and nice velvety texture. Long and pleasant aftertaste.

One of my favourite porters now, so rich, lots of flavours, chocolate, roasted malts and some coffee to name but a few. Creamy on the palate with alcohol very well masked. Nice!

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2009 poured motor oil black...nice 2 finger head that dissipated pretty quick. Smells wonderful of the roasted malts. Can taste the hops - not bitter at all. Taste of dark malt and really picking up a chocolate, coffee flavor. finish a bit stout due to the alcohol bite, but is by no means overwhelming. Wonderfully flavorful beer and one that i will definitely have to get again.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2007 Really solid imperial. Nice smooth aroma. What I’ve found is that it gets better when it gets warm. Go figure. The bottle design is a big perk.

Citrusy, flowery hops, alcohol, coffee, ripe fruit, and caramel in the aroma. Pretty close to black with a thin tan head. Rich chocolate and coffee flavors balanced with pronounced resiny hops, solid hop bitterness, moderate roast character. Full-bodied and creamy with fine carbonation.

I took one for the team since i enjoy hunter s. thompson’s work, but oh goodness... not only is it thick as corn syrup, but it was very heavy of thick tan head. thank goodness i only need 2 ounces to rate a beer... hahaha.. thanks to irishboy for this beer!
