COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you donít show it the proper respect. IBUís: 85

12oz bottle: A nice aroma hops coffee and roast. Taste much the same with good balance between the coffee bitterness and the malty sweetness. No alcohol presence on the palate. A medium to full body with a smooth silky mouth feel. This is very tasty. Certainly the best Flying Dog has to offer. Iíll definitely pick this up again.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2006 This beer is REAL rich and GOOOD!! Itís unusual in that it has a distinct "hoppy " smell at first sniff. But it is toned down a little in the taste, but for a Porter it has a bit more than the "norm"..but, now let me state that in and of itself isnít a bad thing in this beer. It just tastes more like a dark IPA!!. It has a kind-of Hebrew Jewbulation like taste. A really good balanced Dark ale.that is super drinkable and has the most unique wonderful flavor not found in any beer have yet tried! A Very addictiveI beer!

Wow. This beer truly surprised me with its uniqueness. A very dark, essentially black pour with a dense light brown head which leaves moderate lacing. The aroma in bottle is all hops, but in glass is a beautiful balance of roasted coffee malts and pungent floral/citrusy hops. The taste is again surprisingly complex hitting all the right taste buds, again with bitter hops and delicious coffee malts leaving a great dry coffee aftertaste. Not as strong a body as Iíd like considering the 7.8%, and with just a touch less hops it would be (in my mind) perfect.

Minimal head that leaves a solid but thin lacing. Aroma is a roasted malt. Flavor is the coffee/chocolate espresso type. A bit more bitter than sweet which throws the balance off a bit for me, but still tasty. Finish was a dark, malty bitter with alcohol warmth. Good for a cold afternoon.

S: pitch black, thick, chocolate head A: roasty, bittersweet chocolate, a little boozy T: coffee like bitterness, toasty, slightly unbalanced alcohol burn O: this is a good beer, but unbalanced flavors; itís worth trying, but then you should upgrade to the bourbon barrel aged version; the aging balances out the beer and makes it spectacular! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow this rocks!!! Amazing Imperial Stout - the only dry hopped imperial stout I have had and it is immense. Very unusual to get the hops flavours coming through initially and biy do they come through. A smooth barragement of cascade flavours with the chocolate and coffee of the stout bubbling below the srfice. Palate then melows out as the more traditional stout flavours takes over. Very well balanced and amazing flavours and unique use of hops. Try it!

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2014 Pours a real dark brown bordering on black. A big foamy tan head. Roasted grains, coffee, a little chocolate, and some hops are in the nose. Similar in the taste, with a nice dry finish. Great imperial porter, well balanced.

Bottle from N. Charles Liquors. A very unique experience. Aroma of whiskey mingling with hops, very dark. Long-lasting good taste, taste of deep hops, coffee and whiskey combined. Very rich, very full glass of beer. Mild-Medium carbonation, just right. Medium tan-head. An excellent beer, one of my favorites.

Deep roasted aroma with some hop coming though. Nice dark creamy head. Quite dense...cannot see any light through the glass. A ton of bitter chocolate flavor...very nice. Somewhat thin but finishes very well.

Pretty good standard Strong Ale, a little above average bitter at the end, but the bitterness slowly disappears as this one warms up. overall not to bad a Strong Ale, would drink this one again.
