COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Pours a small head, a nice lace coats the glass as you take this sucker down. The color is a dark brown, carbonation is low. The taste is exceptional with many great flavors tingling around and the right amour of hoppy finish. The 9.2 % ABV has the spirit of Hunter Thompson who once said he had a theory that "truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours." So kick back after work and swallow some candor called the "Gonzo Imperial Porter" by Flying Dog.

Svart som fan med latteskum. Doftar kaffe, lakrits och en aning frukt. Smakar först sött men slår snabbt om till besk, kaffe dyker klart upp liksom lite rökig ekfats smak, typ whisky vibbar utan spriten? Kanske lite mer kolsyra än vad man förväntar sig men det funkar helt ok!! Bra skit får man helt enkelt säga. Jag brukar ju alltid ha någon hemma, najs till tårtan liksom.

Nice dark pour into a snifter out of a 12oz bottle. Has a light brown head that stays throughout. Aroma is toasted malts, chocolate and some carmel. Great taste, gets better as it warms up. Excellent night cap.

Pours a thick, opaque, black - almost syrup like with a dense head that disappears quickly. Smells like most imperial stouts - chocolate, coffee notes, with a crispy note to it. Mouthfeel is at first smooth with some bite to it. Good, not great imperial porter.

I had high hopes for this one, but I really hated it. It tasted like alcoholic soy sauce to me.

Tasted this lovely nectar while hosting a beer tasting at my house. Poured a little bit thick and syrupy, but not too much...., nice! Color was of course a very dark brown-no light coming through this roasted malt porter. The head wasn’t as dark as the beer would suggest, more of a dirty white color, but appropriate and lasting while keeping the smell and intense taste of a tall ship’s rope and tar! Beautiful flowery scent even at a distance... nice to breath the balanced gentle fragrance. No single protruding flavor or spice, very balanced between the malt and hops tastes. Bitterness not too much, not too little. Very silky feel over the tunge, again balanced, soft and NO alcoholic taste, despite the 8.7%. A very enjoyable aftertaste with a faint flavor of a special kind of licorice. Acid and CO2 at the right levels. An extraordinary good beer. Good any time, but very much appreciated on a cold winters night with the wind howling mad outside and me being inside with a Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter at my side!

Gonzo pours espresso black/very dark brown, like a carbonated black coffee, if you will. There’s a slight foamy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is of dark chocolate, roasted coffee and perhaps a hint of black olives (maybe from the interplay between the malt, hops, and alcohol) The bouquet is citrus from the hops. Starts off tasting like bitter chocolate, coffee, and malt and then evolves more to a taste of barley wine. The finish is a dry bitter finish, with a nice spicy kick from the hops. The hop kick gets heavier as the beer warms. The body is quite full, the carbonation goes some way at making it feel lighter in the beginning, but this is still a full bodied brew. Overall excellent beer, I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys port beer and especially to anyone who enjoys IPAs as you will appreciate the addenda hops here.

Bottle at home. Aroma gives off charcoal, honey and hops, although not very strongly. Has a full body that tastes of charcoal, coffee, dandelion and a hint of liquorice. Overall a nice beer but I can’t help to feel that they’re playing a little bit safe.

Whiskey-barrel is very prominent on the palate, and it even lingers like a shot of sour-mash, in my opinion. the high alcohol also meshes well with the whiskey characters.
