4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz. bottle, purchased over a year ago, kept in standard fridge...Pours a solid black with a small, coral-like, dark tan head that diminished rather quickly. Very good lacing...Light toasted chocolate malts combined with heavy pine hops. Average alcohol taste with a hint of licorice...Full bodied, thick and creamy, with a soft burning carbonation and a bitter syrupy finish...Very long in flavor, with a light port-like sweetness coupled with heavily smoked chocolate bitterness...Dominates the mouth with a warm dark chocolate that begs you to take your time with it. Outstanding! (The one I had fresh over a year ago was not rated, but from what I can recall, it definitely has mellowed the burning alcohol effect. Delicious either way.)

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Chocolate head with tar body. Literally a porter with more booze and lots of dry hopping. This may sound like a slam on the Gonz, but make no mistake, this brew is a tasy one. Sticky with malt and super hoppy but nice ’n’ bready as a porter should be. If I come across the barrel aged twin I’ll double the dose for sure.

Nightblack, with steddy foam. Smelles of dried fruit, coffee and herbes.
Extremely long duration of aftertaste.
One of the top 5 beers I have tasted.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Vintage 05G - 12 oz. brown glass.
A rather simple nose dominated by a definite c-hop aroma. Clean. Malt aroma lower than expected for such a large beer. Roastiness and floral esters emerge as this sample warms.
Pours an opaque dark brown with a huge brown head that fell rather quickly to a tight silky lace. Flavor is malt balanced fades to a simple roasty caramel middle with no hop flavor which carries through to the finish. Roastiness and caramel linger in the aftertaste.
Medium full body with a bit too much carbonation contributes to a crisper than desired finish. A little alcohol noticed in the finsh.
A decent beer that appeals mostly because of original gravity. Basically a wee heavy with some roast barley and american hops. Very drinkable and none obtrusive. A bit of smoke character and age would improve this beer greatly. Lay this one down.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours black and thick. Beer looks great poured, but taste is sour, or bitter, and not as good as I’d hoped. Burnt toffee flavor.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
They had it at the liquor store for 3 bucks a bottle, MUCH MUCH better then the garde, that one wasn’t near as good. Smells really good, goes down a bit bitter but overall has a decent amount of flavor. Not a bad way to spend 3 bucks.

4.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This porter is dark and thick with a decent head. No aroma to speak of but plenty of flavor. Roasted barley and molasses notes.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pretty hoppy for a porter. Smells of burnt coffee/caramel. Hoppy start, earthy finish. Jet black in color, very little head with moderate lacing.
I’m not a porter drinker usually but I enjoyed this beer. It was much better once it warmed up.
