Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you donít show it the proper respect. IBUís: 85

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2005 A dark and thick muddy brown body with a frothy dark tan head. Very hoppy aroma with a nice hint of dark chocolates. A thick malty and chocolate flavor with roasted tones that fade into a light spice hop ting at the end. What a beer for what a man.

Super dark brown almost black body with a caramel brown head. Not a whole lot of aroma here, mostly hops there. The taste is almost all malt though, I really get a chocolate/caramel feel, everything is roasted. Little bit of bitterness coming through on the tail end.

thereís scarce little i can find about this beer that isnít perfect. beautiful rich deep garnet color, dark brown whipped head. smooth body, hops are paired with the black and chocolate malts and sweet crystal. rockiní beer. the fusel-alcohol burn is noted, but hidden behind the big black flavors. in twelve months, this bad ass will turn tables.

On tap @ Flying Dog Gonzofest. Thick dark brown pour. Smell is alcohol, and prunes, chocolate, caramel, dark roasted grains. Tan Head. Taste is sweet but not cloying. Very malty, but balanced well by hops. Flavor is smooth but strong. You can taste the alcohol, but it is not hot. A nice beer.

From a bottle. Didn't get as much coffee as I expected. Hoppy for a dark beer. Not easy to drink, but solid a beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pitch black with a thick brown-ish head. Surprisingly weak aroma, some roasted notes, some almost wheat-line tones, cold coffee, and some background hops. But disappointing, served too cold? Hm... Creamy body with light carbonation. Semi-sweet, with a click medium to full body with roasted black malt dominating with coffee and bitter chocolate, then leaving a long rather bitter finish. Some sugary notes is mixed with a twang of alcohol. I had this one some 8 months ago and was impressed. This time, not so much: still a good stout, but not a standout.

Bottle. Blackest black with a small dark brown head. Roasted, almost burnt malt with an equally roasted caramel aroma. Alcohol content is obvious, hop bitterness appears after a while.

Great beer and GREAT porter. Poured blacker than black. By the aroma itself, you can tell it will be a thick ní malty kick ass beer. Smooth great taste till the very end! Also at 9.5%ABV it will leave you feeling gooood.

Poured a bottle into a tulip glass. Iím not sure how old this beer is, but probably several months at least. I bought this on a clearance sale. I think the aging has been good for it, however. Very impressive! Huge, multi-inch cafe-au-lait colored head that lasted seemingly forever, followed by decent lacing on the glass. Aromas of coffee, alcohol, hops, slightly medicinal, but overall pretty good. Many different flavors abound in this beer. Coffee, toffee, chocolate, caramel. Sweet with some hoppiness to balance. Tastes very good. Alcohol well hidden. Never would have guessed itís a 9.2%er. Mouthfeel is kind of sticky with a good bit of drying after each sip. You can feel the carbonation as well. Bit of a bitter chocolate aftertaste. Nice beer, but quite rich. High ABV and richness limit the drinkability, but overall itís a very good beer.
