4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured a bottle into a tulip glass. Iím not sure how old this beer is, but probably several months at least. I bought this on a clearance sale. I think the aging has been good for it, however.
Very impressive! Huge, multi-inch cafe-au-lait colored head that lasted seemingly forever, followed by decent lacing on the glass.
Aromas of coffee, alcohol, hops, slightly medicinal, but overall pretty good.
Many different flavors abound in this beer. Coffee, toffee, chocolate, caramel. Sweet with some hoppiness to balance. Tastes very good. Alcohol well hidden. Never would have guessed itís a 9.2%er.
Mouthfeel is kind of sticky with a good bit of drying after each sip. You can feel the carbonation as well. Bit of a bitter chocolate aftertaste.
Nice beer, but quite rich. High ABV and richness limit the drinkability, but overall itís a very good beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark brown with an attractive lightbrown head. Aromaís of expresso, dark chocolate, caramel, some sweetness in the background. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy with soft carbonation. Delicate balance between malty sweetness and fresh bitter hop tones. Finish is bitter and warming.
Sampled at 11.00 in the morning to give it all the respect it deserves, Excellent !

Imperial Porter? stupid name (great label though). Nice sweetish smell.Taste again nottes of sweetness, without being cloying. The bitter kick helps in that respect a bit of cinnamon? not as overwhelming as I suspected it would be... Nice

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Subtle sweet aroma of licquorice and banana. Frothy brown head, pitch back colour.
Heavy body with soft carbonation. Roasted malts and bayleaf, and citrussy bitter. Bitter finish with notes of nuts, burnt malts. Slightly oily mouthfeel.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Opaque black with a big tan head which quickly recedes to a ring which sticks, and provides a little lace. Lots of roasted barley flavor for a baltic porter, but good. Also, chocolate, with a little frutiness. A bit of lingering bitterness i dont remember from previous vintages. (06a)

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The aroma is a wonderful variety of smells. I think I picked up hints of dark bread, roasted malts, chocolate, and maybe mild coffee. There is also an alcohol presence in the aroma as this is a 9.0% ABV beer.
It pours an average sized, creamy, light-brown head that is mostly diminishing. The body clarity is best described as muddy. There is no possible way to see through it. The body hue is dark black.
The initial flavor is a like a kick in the face (in a good way). You get lively carbonation, sweet chocolate and heavy roasted malt taste followed by a long lasting bitter hop and finish.
This beer is full-bodied and deliciously creamy, especially when not too cold.
This is a real gem. Great to drink slowly and appreciatively.

are you kidding me? i tried this beer for the first time at the flying dog brewey - and i nearly wet my own pants. my buddy herb was there, and, after he tried it, he also nearly wet my pants - and everyone elseís around him. this porter is like NO OTHER porter i have ever tried. it is huge. it is monstrous. it lays up well against the outline of coloradoís mountain skyline - all jagged with this and that flavor tossed up beyond a level ten danger slope. this thing pours like pure sin in a glass - all black, no light or time passing through. a sandy brown cap lays on top, full of the little air trapped inside the bottle. aromatic notes of harsh espresso, darkly dark chocolate and roasted raisin cake waft from the cap of the glass. flavors bursts true to the aromas, but also reveal deeply embedded stalks of anise and huge hops cones. dry hopped cones? i wonder. herb and i sipped one down on his front porch in colorado. i said, i could sure love this ever once in awhile. herb said, i could love it often. well, then: i guess thatís all there is to say.
