Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Almost black body with a dark tan/copper lasting head. The hose was sweeter, more stoutlike compared to a suprisingly bitter taste. maybe not ideal bottle condition? some hops in the aftertaste.

Not very cool bottle, but I tried it anyway. Dark and beautifu beer! Brown golden head. Aroma of yeast and coffee, I like! Somewhat fizzy in mouth even though it doesnt seem to have much carbon.Sweet and full taste. I like porter - I like this one. (Ånn, 210308)

From an 07 bottle, opened without fanfare, but the head grew anyway. Poured black with a mocha one finger head. Aroma is very malty with smoky/burnt and woodlike smell. Taste is intense, then goes right into bitter chocolate smoked flavor. Aftertaste is a little bitter/dry. Overall, a good representation of a baltic porter.

Just finished a Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout and am struck by how different these beers are (the Darkhorse being significantly better). Aroma on the Gonzo was more pronounced. Smooth, rich poor, light tan head. Low carbonation. Bitter coffee upfront. Smooths then finish is nearly non-existent. Viscosity apparent up front fades to almost nothing, leaving me slightly unsatisfied at not having anything a little meatier to stay with me after each drink. Overall not a bad imperial porter.-

Coffee, caramel, chocolate, alcohol, allspice, and clove. Big and bold. Not overly sweet. Still drinkable at 9.2%

On tap at Haket. First time I tasted this one I hated it. I guess i have matured... Dark colour. Aroma: lemon, american hops. Flavor: sopur, fresh, licourice.

Chocolate head with tar body. Literally a porter with more booze and lots of dry hopping. This may sound like a slam on the Gonz, but make no mistake, this brew is a tasy one. Sticky with malt and super hoppy but nice ’n’ bready as a porter should be. If I come across the barrel aged twin I’ll double the dose for sure.

12 oz. bottle, purchased over a year ago, kept in standard fridge...Pours a solid black with a small, coral-like, dark tan head that diminished rather quickly. Very good lacing...Light toasted chocolate malts combined with heavy pine hops. Average alcohol taste with a hint of licorice...Full bodied, thick and creamy, with a soft burning carbonation and a bitter syrupy finish...Very long in flavor, with a light port-like sweetness coupled with heavily smoked chocolate bitterness...Dominates the mouth with a warm dark chocolate that begs you to take your time with it. Outstanding! (The one I had fresh over a year ago was not rated, but from what I can recall, it definitely has mellowed the burning alcohol effect. Delicious either way.)
