3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pitch black with a tan head. Herbal-hop smell. The flavor screams IMPERIAL, and the alcohol flavor is none-too-shy. Roasty porter malt, tingling carbonation. Not for the casual porter fan, but exciting for the enthusiast.

Great balance of flavors, a bit carbonated on the front end with a really nice finish in the mouth.

Holy cow...First off this beer is black, not dark brown, but black with a beautiful chocolate brown head and nice roasty aroma. Had a sip...Oh yes! Yummy coffee roast flavor that leaves a slight tingle on my tongue. This is the type of beer Iíve been looking for! Delicious!

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep dark, dark brown body with frothy, dark khaki head with nice lace. Aroma is coffee with sweetness underneath. Sweet dark chocolate taste that attacked by hoppy bitterness which dives headfirst into an aftertaste of chocolate covered cherries. The palate is the best part of this beer - a bubbly swamp on the tongue, thick and even. My first rating on this website, but a great find.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark black pour from bottle with no head. Small ring of tan foam around the top. Excellent smell of chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of alcohol. Taste immediately hits the alcohol but finished with a great roasty malt that lingers. I agree with rustbucket0873, it is very smooth for being so strong.
Good people do indeed drink good beer. HST, you are missed, especially at Super Bowl time.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2006 I had two of these from different batches within a few days and I would say this beer definitely benefits from 6 months of aging. The vintage 06A was quite good, but the 05F just blew me away - richer, mellower, sweeter - really tasted more like an Imperial Stout, and as good or better than any I have had (namely Old Raspy and Storm King.)

This brew surprised me, to say the least. Most of the HG beers I have tried tend to have that "tingle" that ruins the palette after a few sips, but not this one. A very well balanced beer. I would buy it again and definately tell a few friends. This is a great beer, just as Hunter S. was a great man.
