I think I picked up hints of dark bread, roasted malts, chocolate, and maybe mild coffee. There is also an alcohol presence in the aroma as this is a 9.0% ABV beer.
It pours an average sized, creamy, light-brown head that is mostly diminishing. The body clarity is best described as muddy. There is no possible way to see through it. The body hue is dark black.
The initial flavor is a like a kick in the face (in a good way). You get lively carbonation, sweet chocolate and heavy roasted malt taste followed by a long lasting bitter hop and finish.
This beer is full-bodied and deliciously creamy, especially when not too cold.
This is a real gem. Great to drink slowly and appreciatively. dchmela (1476), Orlando, Florida, USA

Very balanced taste that has hints of chocolate malt, dark fruit, and dry merlot. This is a very smooth and elegant beer that is a wonderful tribute to the HST. doppelmeup (51), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

Very impressive! Huge, multi-inch cafe-au-lait colored head that lasted seemingly forever, followed by decent lacing on the glass.
Aromas of coffee, alcohol, hops, slightly medicinal, but overall pretty good.
Many different flavors abound in this beer. Coffee, toffee, chocolate, caramel. Sweet with some hoppiness to balance. Tastes very good. Alcohol well hidden. Never would have guessed it’s a 9.2%er.
Mouthfeel is kind of sticky with a good bit of drying after each sip. You can feel the carbonation as well. Bit of a bitter chocolate aftertaste.
Nice beer, but quite rich. High ABV and richness limit the drinkability, but overall it’s a very good beer. reeljob (14), USA
