COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

opaque black, thin dense tan head, full body, medium high but harsh co2.
aroma: very sweet, lots of dark fruit, licorice, slight silage, creamy hops, hints of molasses and sweet bran muffins.

taste: sweet charcoal, herbal hop bitterness, alcohol burn. not roasty or chocolate, not really much coffee even. gets a little fruity as it warms.

this is imperial in the sense of "lets kill us some taste-buds", not "lets make it doubly delicious."

Bottle. Says 9.2% ABV. Dark brown with dark beige head. Aromas of cocoa, caramel, plum and grass. Flavors of cocoa, caramel, cherry, plum, and alcohol. Alcohols detract from this beer. Medium-full body with thick, chalky mouthfeel and moderate, tiny bubble carbonation. Crazy cocoa flavors.

12 oz. bottle. Aroma- Malty sweetness, some dark fruit, sweet almost barley wine-like alcohol, a hint of roast. Appearance- Opaque dark brown with moderate tan head. Flavor- complex, strong roastiness that pushes the envelope toward harsh, dark fruit in the background. Some chocolate. A little sweet at first but quickly dries up due to the roastiness. Finishes dry and bitter. I detect an almost cardboard flavor at the very end. Full smooth mouthfeel with a little alcohol warmth.

355ml bottle. It pours a completely opaque black colour with a nice cappucino head. Most of the head disappears in a couple of minutes but a thin skim remains to the end. The nose has gorgeous black chocolate, plums and kirsch - this is Black Forest Gateau in a glass. The taste is initiallay smoke and dark chocolate, then hazelnuts, but there is a massive alcohol burn on the finish which I have to say is unpleasant. The palate is rich in structure and texture, but the alcohol finish and general lack of any elegance in the finish makes this beer massively unbalanced. Overall, a big unbalanced beer!

355 ml bottle from Passione Birra. Dark brown with some ruby red highlights, very small light brown head. Grassy hops aroma, lots of roasted and smokey flavours, some chocolate and alchool. Very low carbonation, nice burnt, warming aftertaste. Not a summer beer for sure, but it was nice.

Test vom 27.4.2010, Gebinde: Glasflasche

12 oz. bottle at the Nook. Pours dark and opaque with a thin tan head. The aroma is bittersweet chocolate, coffee, molasses, dates, and raisins. The coffee mellows out as it warms, giving a more subdued and less roasted profile. The flavor is very sweet, with light roast and smoky notes. Very little sourness or bitterness. The palate is heavy, a little grainy, and a clean finish. Overall, this is an understated and delicious beer.
