Nice dark porter. Good bitterness. Dark roasted chocolate flavours. Nice brown head. Mine had spent 2 years in the cellar. Nice carbonation.

Certainly a great beer, with dark fruits, dark chocolates, a good deal of Port, perfectly crafted by Flying Dog. The alcohol content never gets on the way. What turns me off is the excessive dry, hoppy bitterness. I prefer much more their Road Dog Porter.

Bottle. Pours almost black body, with a brown head that diminishes slowly, leaving a good lace. Mostly malty aroma, some faint notes of coffee. Tastes the same, light to medium bitter, some roastiness. Didnít feel any of the fairly high ABV. Low to average carbonation, oily texture, full bodied. A good beer, nothing to stand out, but itís good.

Lukt: Rosin, brent kaffe, lakris, sjokolade, røstet malt.
Smak: mørk kaffe, litt røyk, mørk sjokolade, litt krydder. Lang kraftig ettersmak.
Trodde først det var en imp Stout da jeg blindtestet.

Nice dark on black ale with a couple fingers of light mocha foam and a good velvety texture. Nice oaty flavor, good dry cocoa and toast flavors. Nice flavor is slightly bitter and charred flavors hide in this alongside coffee. A bit empty bodied with higher carb, which is sharp and a dry finish. This is s a decent beer, but nothing particularly special Ė canít see specifically seeking this out.

Pours with a black body topped by a medium thick, brown head with a good amount of lacing. Itís slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness and a little licorice. Nothing Special. Full bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

Mental notes for the first bottle indicate that this one changes significantly with time and temperature; now for my second bottle... Near opaque dark brown color with a dense light brown head. Lots of clinging lace. Initial burst of fresh pine in the nose. Chocolate, cloves, licorice and cinnamon come in later; and as this warm more a real alcohol comes out and burns the nostrils. To many things working against each other to be adored. Smooth and slippery on the palate. Mild start in the flavor department. Light chocolate flavors start the journey. Things get sticky mid to late quaff, with roasted malt, grain, and alcohol flavors mix in. A strong black malt bitterness in the linger. A very chewy porter indeed. Somehow this needs a little more malt character instead of the grainy aspect. I like it in a one and done sort of brew.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2005 Poured deep brown, mild short lived head. Aroma is minimal mild malt/hop mix. Hint of overripe dark fruit.
Has some mild pine, coffee, chocolate grapfruit. Weird in a mild way.Like a more oily subdued version of Alpha Klause. I wish this was a bit more in your face/over the top. Pretty good tho.

REALLY OVER-RATED. If this is gonna be called a Baltic Porter, then it needs to live up to it. Sorry, Eric, you missed boat here. Not sweet enough and the alcohol is actually to well hidden. Oh yeah, and HST was also very over-rated. What a blow hard!!!

Great head and great lacing. Chocolatey and quite heavy. Taste had appropriate porter tastes. Not a bad beer at all.
