Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

soft milk chocolate aroma with some roastiness, beautiful black body with a finger and a half of tightly packed reddish brown head, bittersweet chocolate slightly chalky mouthfeel, noticeable cascade hop presence and alcohol presence, the good doctor would’ve been proud.

Pours solid black with a large, brownish head. There are brown highlights along the edges when held up to the light. Smell is lots of roasted malt as well as dark fruit. Taste is similar to the smell, with a heavy roasted flavor as well as a little bit of alcohol. For a beer with this much alcohol, it is very drinkable and something I really enjoyed.

I think we are lucky here in Greece that we can find this porter. A nice mix of chocolate-caramel-fruits and roasted malts in Aroma and Taste... with hints of hop at the end. Well balanced at all.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine in Tustin ($1.99). Pours close to black with a thin layer of mocha brown foam that soon recedes to nothing. Aroma is sweet roasted malts, light chocolate and caramel, and a significant amount of mildly sweet and dark fruits (berries, grapes, raisins, pomegranate?). Flavor is initially dark roasted malts but as the label promises, the hops are here as well and kick in very soon (more citrus flavors than the dark fruits described in the aroma). The fruity flavors mix with chocolate and other malt components. Medium body, not too heavy. A burnt/ash flavor enters in the finish. Generally, I the flavor is good but I think my bottle is too fresh -- I would like to see how the hops mellow out with some age and what kind of new complexities there might be.

Dark brown colored, with average long and cappuccino colored head. Aroma is very complex: strong malty and alcoholic then chocolate and a bit of berries. American hops are clearly detected too. Not too much sweet, nice carbonation and a well balanced bitter. FInish is astringent and very long. Great porter.

Bottled. Thick beige/tan head with an almost black body. Rich aroma of roasted malts. You can taste the roasted malts with caramel and chocolate. This beer turned me on to porters. Excellent beer

Bottle. Black with a thick tan head. Aroma of grains, roasted malt, caramel and nuts. Similar ingredients in the taste, also some chocolate, quite sweet. Body was medium, a good imperial porter. Good balance and a rather long, bitter aftertaste.
