COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Very impressive! Black as a cup of Starbucks coffee with a thick tan head. The head leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Wonderful aroma of coffee, chocolate, and malt. Sweet up front with chocolate and coffee evident. Finishes slightly bitter with some hops and pine. Only a slight alcohol aftertaste. An incredibly good and easy drinking beer considering the alcohol content. Now I have to go watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas again.

355ml bottle from 2013. extremely dark black pour with thin dark tanned head. aroma is of roasted malts and licorice/bitter alcohol. taste is very dark cocoa-y chocolate, malts and toast. but as others have said, the finish is quite hoppy and zingy. not black IPA levels but great.

Transferring some earlier reviews from my blog to RB. Mai 2014, Bottledog, 355 ml. Valades punaka varjundiga pruunikasmust, pruunikasbeež vaht hea, püsiv, kleepuv. Aroom on isegi otse külmikust võetuna vapustavalt halastamatu: esmalt tunnen siin musti oliive, tugevat röstisust, karamelli, espressot, vürtsikust, suti vaniljekat nüanssi, natuke ka mingit pehmemat teralisust - nt kaer? Taustal humala mõnusalt mõrkjas-hapukas ja lagritsane torge; soojenedes üha enam. Juues tõeliselt pehme, ent kleepjas ja täidlane, mõõduka mulliga. Maitse on ülimalt mõru šokolaadine, vb isegi enama kui 80% kakaosisaldusega šokolaadine... Karm! Röstine-kohvine-kakaone, kergelt rosinane, ülimõrkjas, nagu näriks kakaoubasid! Alkoholikangus vajutab kurku tugeva pitseri. Järelmaik on võimsalt humalamõru, siuke männine-vaigune. Fantastiline! Sildil muuseas Hunteri tsitaat: "It never got weird enough for me."

Opaque black beer with a thick beige head. Aroma is malt and chocolate. Flavour is malt and earthy fruit flavours but there’s some pale ale qualities in there too. Tangy citrus cuts through to make it a bit different. Very good.

Appearance is jet black, a bit of sediment floating around, a one finger light brown head which settles, leaving plenty of lacing. Aroma- coffee, dark, bitter chocolate, burnt malts, hint of caramel and burnt, dark fruit. Taste- burnt toast, plenty of bitter hops, treacle, a bit fluffy in the mouth with the carbonation, dark chocolate and bitter coffee, a dry, roasty finish. Alcohol hidden. Good.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2014 Aroma is chocolate, big roasty malts, burnt toast and anise. A mouthful is creamy dark chocolate with a touch of black licorice, followed by subtle hop notes to round it out. A bit of booziness comes through but it is well hidden amongst the complexities and layers.

"my first impression of this beer was very good, and i still think it’s a solid beer, but it’s a little harsh, and i really need to be in the mood to really enjoy it. full sail’s was way smoother."
