mansquito (652), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Jul 14, 2007 Smells like bitter dark chocolate with a little bit of fruity ale aroma thrown in for good measure. It looks like the darkest abyss of hell with a brownish head to match. Taste is awesome (big) with chocolate, bitterness, a few hops, coffee/espresso, and probably a few more that I forgot to mention. Roasty and easy drinking. Can’t even tell that this is such a heavy beer.
BMan1113VR (934), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 14, 2008 2007 Bottle. Pours thick, with a dark brown head, a black body and good lacing. Aroma of alcohol, chocolate, flowery, syrup and coffee. Taste is alcohol, coffee, smoke with dark fruits. Syrupy, warming with light bubbles. Good! Ober (405), Best, Netherlands Oct 14, 2008 An almost black colored beer, with a dark beige foamed head. The aroma of chocolate, dark malts, dark fruits and grainy. There is also a lot of hop, American hops, strongly present. When you taste the beer, the hop is also there. It predominate the tastes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits like prunes, blackberries and raisins. It’s bitter. The aftertaste is bitter as well and it’s warm. That stays for a while. gameface23 (116), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Oct 13, 2008 Poured pitch black with a dark tan head. Smell was roasted coffee and chocolate and a very slight hint of alcohol. Similar flavor. I thought it was well-rounded with a decent mouthfeel. mybrainhurts (184), North Dakota, USA Oct 13, 2008 Strong aroma of sweetened dark chocolate, coffee, and alcohol. Flavors of chocolate, mild coffee, with dark fruits and an alcoholic bite that tingles the tongue. Fruity and acidic at the back of the throat. Bold and good. Not the tops but I’d get again. redlem (1111), Illinois, USA Oct 13, 2008 IN my very clean Mikasa goblet this beer’s head went down faster than a Coke Zero on a 100 degree day. The only ass-whipping would be to the Rolling-Stone sellouts who would give out the Hunter Thompson name in favor of a road reference in what they mistakenly believe would give them a reference of Jack Kerouac. Can a reverse bite in the ass be given, if so than Flying Dog is snipping at the flea at their ass .
