mmm///beer (521), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 12 oz. bottle purchased from B&B in Grand Rapids, MI, ’07 vintage poured into trappist glass- poured non-transparent black, light brown head bubbled away slowly with whisps on top and some lacing, high-low carbonation. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and some mild cherry note. Hits the mouth with a hard medium body, malt comes in and goes wild in your mouth, some gritty stickiness as you sip more, some hops in the finish but it just makes it that more good! Great brew!!!
Sparky27 (498), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 20, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a pitch black with one finger dark tan head and sticky lacing. Nose is milk chocolate, toasted smoky malts and mellow coffee. Taste is smoke, dark chocolate, salty roasted nuts, some dark fruits mixed in, and a bitter coffee hoppy finish. Medium-to-full creamy mouth feel. Gets a little boozy as it warms. This is the best beer I’ve had from Flying Dog – very good. 1_2many (194), Ohio, USA Aug 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours the color of dark chocolate with a fine looking tan head with decent lacing. Wow I was not expecting to get this bouquet of hops in the aroma blending fabulously with rich roasty malt. Flavor is very good as well but not as surprising. Good sweetness matched well with bittering hops. Palate is very smooth with a medium to full body, light carbonation, and a good aftertaste. I’ll definitely get this again. Nice surprise. lassem (106), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 18, 2008 # 105
Pours a deep brown, almost black with a tiny and quickly fading dark brown head. Nose is coffee, roasted malts, raisins with hints of alcohol
A light but very balanced experience with a complex taste-symphony in almost perfect harmony. I taste coffee and dark chockolate, brown burned sugar with smoked and sweet hints. The finish is a bitter hoppy journey. The palate is smooth and creamy without being too much. tomthompson89 (1100), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 17, 2008 poured super jet black with a wonderful chocolate colored head, nose is sweet with dried fruit , choc malts and a nice port nose. flavor is currants black licorice, chocolate and alcohol but really well balanced. this one is a 06. very nice beer. Thanx Harry AndyReynolds (41), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Aug 17, 2008 Poured a very dark brown with a thin head. Aroma was very complex with the aroma of dark fruits, brown sugar, chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. The taste was just the same, with a bitter and sweet finish. It went down really smooth even with a rather high alcohol content.
