Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

What an aroma! Chocolate, which gives way to cream (almost like strawberries with cream!), then toasted bread and bitter coffee…. The first mouthful prickles uncontrollably, not from carbon but from taste! Although “toast” dominates the flavor, hints of lemon – not to mention the lingering green-apple taste from the hops! – adds supremely delightful nuances to this wonderful brew. This imperial porter eschews chocolate in favor of cocoa, which in my opinion makes for a far better porter. The bottled version is much more nuanced than the draught version, although the latter has an undeniable drinkability which the subtleties of the bottled version naturally counter. A fantastic beer!

355ml bottle from Beerhawk. Big tan head, great lacing. Dark black body. Nose is predominantly sweet, creamy, over roasted nuts and chocolate. Flavour is rich creamy chocolate, coffee, nuts, hints of dark berries, good bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is rich, creamy, luxurious. Really thick. Brilliant stuff.

From old notes. The bitterness and boldness doesn’t really work for me here. Looks good, smells fine but the palate just isn’t as balanced or congruous as it should be. Not bad though.

Tap at tipsy cow. Dark brown. Aroma of coffee, stone fruit, hops. Flavor is lots of roasted notes, some coffee, booze, pine. The hops are very apparent in the finish, can catch you off guard. Very good

Svart öl med brunt skum. Doft av malt, mörk choklad, mörk rostat kaffe, sötma, lite alkohol. Smak i samma bana med en trevlig beska och eftersmak. Balanserad och god öl. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled from a 12fl oz bottle. Pours very dark brown with a thick light brown head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and red fruits. Rich taste of red fruits, coffee and milk chocolate. Lots of Demerara sugar, and the finish tastes of dark rum. Strong background of alcohol and a good hop bitterness. An excellent characterful Imperial Porter.

strong malty/roasty aroma. pitch black in color, can not see light through glass with a light held to the other side, by far the darkest beer I have come across. taste is very rich, roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate flavors, slight alcohol finish

(Bottle) Black with big tan head - fantastic looking beer. Lovely aroma - frsh pine notes with rich coffee and chocolate. Full bodied, slightly sticky with good carbonation. Great taste - complex and rich. Toffee, raisins, coffee balanced with pine notes. Slight alcohol burn and nice long bitter finish. Excellent strong dark beer.

Pours black with a long lasting tan head. Aromas of chocolate and licorice. Taste the same with some coffee and malt sweetness. Some alcohol heat as the beer warms. Bitter at the finish. Very nice complex ale. Medium to thick palate. Lots of lacing in the glass.
