COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

I have had this several time before unrated. This latest one I assume is much fresher as its way hoppier than I remember. first of all its Pitch black. Virtually no red or brown tones when held up to the light. The nose has some salty acrid burnt coffee notes and a lot of earthy hops with some alcohol. The palate seams surprisingly thin but there is a wonderful clean hop bitterness. it actually bullied the malt flavours. This is really quite hoppy for the style but Ive rated it wll because I really enjoy it.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a small, reddish-brown head and nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malt, bread crust, dark fruit, and citrusy hops. Body is medium, slightly crisp and creamy. Toasted, nutty malt, brown sugar, dark fruit, citrusy hops fill the mouth. Finish is long, citrusy and bitter. Nice brew.

Powerful bitter brew of a porter. Opaque black with a nice frothy & sticky beige head. Hop-bitter at onset and offset, powerful concentrated dark chocolate malt in the mid range, roasted bitters at the end, distorted somewhat by its alcoholic finish - otherwise very smooth sledgehammer of a porter. Note: the heavily truncated label for this Bier&co.nl import doesn’t provide any information, nor does it feature the in/famous boisterous Hunter S. Thompson quotes Flying Dog is known for - pity that the aesthetics of the whole package weren’t met with respect on import.

Pours black with thin dark tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, hops, damp wood. Taste is hop bitter, dark fruit, charcoal/ash....a slight vegetable-like trace... Nicely complex, though the high IBU detracts, I think from the overall roastiness and porter-ness....not my favourite, but it has it points.....on my list to try again.

Solid brew, which has been tempered with greatly with, but I prefer this "clean" version. It is a full bodied Imperial Stout, not as sweet as many others are. The slightly bitter finish keeps inviting you to have another sip!

Skvělé pivo! Voní po lesním ovoci, příjemně zahřeje na jazyku. I přes vysokou stupňovitost není alkohol příliš znatelný, i když samozřejmě nejde o žádné lehké pivo. Na patře zůstává lehká karamelová dochuť.

En trevlig porter med en välbalaserad smak och påtaglig beska. Mycket kraftig smak.

Bottle sample at an Imperial beer tasting at the Norma Jean in Jaffa, hosted by beerandbeyond. Opaque, brown-black with a dark tan head. Coffee, cocoa, delicate roast. Bitter, hints of sweet a little dry. Full body, roasty finish, delicate carbonation. Really great.

Svart som fan med latteskum. Doftar kaffe, lakrits och en aning frukt. Smakar först sött men slår snabbt om till besk, kaffe dyker klart upp liksom lite rökig ekfats smak, typ whisky vibbar utan spriten? Kanske lite mer kolsyra än vad man förväntar sig men det funkar helt ok!! Bra skit får man helt enkelt säga. Jag brukar ju alltid ha någon hemma, najs till tårtan liksom.

Bottle from the Offie, Leicester. Black, with receding beige head. Smells pretty hoppy with a malt extract warmth. Initially has the feel of an Imperial Stout - warm, sweet, hoppy. Really dries out on the finish, leaving an almost liqueur like alcohol finish. The finish doesn’t quite do it for me, but otherwise it’s very good indeed.
