3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. The pour was a murky pitch black with a large (2-3 finger) medium brown creamy head that had awesome retention, lasting until the end and producing some excellent clingy spotty lacing.
The aroma was nice and robust of a roasted chocolate malt, a mild resin hop and an earthy leathery yeast with notes of bitter-sweet chocolate, dark roasted coffee, molasses and a quite pronounced scent of alcohol.
The taste was bold and roasty with a sweet acidic malty flavor that had hints of molasses and chocolate at first and then having a nice bitter sweet coffee flavor take hold with a very strong alcohol presence at the end. The flavor hung on for a decently long time letting one enjoy the nice mocha coffee flavor and a nice alcohol warming sensation.
Mouthfeel was a solid medium in body with the texture being a bit oily yet a little dry towards the end with the carbonation being quite lively.
Overall a nice strong, bold and roasty brew with a good rounding of flavors and a kickin’ alcohol finish.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
355ml bottle, pours black with a good tan head. Aroma is rich and as soon as the bottle opens, is there in the nose. Rich roasted coffee, chocolate and caramel. Finish is balanced by a lasting bitterness but any hop favour is overpowered by the malt backbone. Carbonation is lively (for the style). A rich full bodied porter. Lovely.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A superb example of the style. Inky dark with a full and well balanced body bursting with flavour. Only downside is it is a little too strong to enjoy in the quantities one would like.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Pours thick and black with all of four fingers of thick, chocolate milk coloured head. At room temperature the aroma is fairly gutsy and deep with medium roast coffee, heated wood, herbs and licorice. Full bodied, bouncy palate, creamy and complex. Well integrated and balanced flavours, flavourful but doesn’t sprawl in any direction. Long finish without much bitterness or alcoholic taste. Very nice.
